Henri d'Arrée was a Knight Templar during the reign of King Richard I of England. He was originally from Brittany. He named his sword Durendal, after the original sword of legend, and was highly attached to his war-horse, Léontif.
Biography
During his time outre-mer, D'Arrée gained a more open mind than that of his friend, the English Earl Godfrey, seeing for himself how the Saracens told similar exaggerated "horror stories" about Christians to the tales about the Saracens that were in circulation in Europes. He befriended Moses of Tyre, a fellow Knight who was a well-travelled scholar of Jewish origins, who once saved his life when he fell ill.
After the end of the Crusade, D'Arrée was positioned at a Templar outpost not far from Earl Godfrey's castle. When Godfrey's wife Maud was taken ill, D'Arrée brought Moses to the castle so he could help heal her if necessary. This proved fortunate, as Godfrey's herbalist Osbert had disappeared while foraging for the ingredients for a potion. It soon turned out that Krynoids had arrived in the area, with one taking over Osbert and the other a wild wolf. D'Arrée proved instrumental to defeating the monsters, notably making a perilous ride out to the Templar outpost and back for some sulphur needed by Moses to create a mixture to defeat the beasts, even as the castle was besieged by one of the Krynoids, grown to gigantic size.
