Stamford Bridge was the site of a battle in 1066 between the Saxons led by King Harold Godwinson and Viking invaders led by Harald Hardrada. The battle ended with victory for the Saxons, but weakened them, resulting in their defeat in the Battle of Hastings by the Normans. (TV: "Checkmate")
