Battle of Hastings
The Battle of Hastings was a conflict fought between Saxon king Harold Godwinson and Norman leader William the Conqueror at Hastings, (TV: The Time Meddler) as part of the Norman Conquest of England, (TV: Co-Owner of a Lonely Heart) in 1066 (PROSE: Who's After Your Cash [+]Loading...["Who's After Your Cash (short story)"], The Constant Warrior [+]Loading...["The Constant Warrior (short story)"]) resulting in the death of Harold. The First Monk tried to prevent the Norman victory by destroying a Viking fleet off the Northumbrian coast, which would have forced Harold to march to Stamford Bridge to face them. History would have shown that although Harold would have won, the battle would have resulted in heavy casualties and on the way back to Hastings his army would have suffered desertions. The Monk wanted to stop that by having Harold keep a fresh army without any casualties or desertions, but was stopped by the First Doctor. (TV: The Time Meddler)

The Shopkeeper added that the tapestry of time was a fragile thing, and that applying the slightest pressure could cause the threads of history to unravel. (TV: Lost in Time)
