- Jack Harkness, who has been buried alive under Cardiff since 27 AD, is recovered by Alice Guppy and the Torchwood Cardiff team when they receive a signal from a transmitter hidden on Jack by John Hart. January
- 1 - Technical beginning of the 20th century.
- 22 - Queen Victoria dies on the Isle of Wight. A comment by the Fourth Doctor leads Sarah Jane Smith to believe that the queen was one of his companions, though he was more probably referring to Victoria Waterfield. The Doctor, however, was present at Victoria's coronation. (DW: Pyramids of Mars, The Curse of Peladon) A later incarnation also shared an adventure with the Queen involving The Host, which resulted in both he and Rose Tyler being knighted and banished from Great Britain, leading to Queen Victoria establishing the Torchwood Institute. (DW: Tooth and Claw) Victoria's death marks the end of the iconic Victorian Era of Earth history.
- Edward VII ascends the throne of Great Britain and Ireland. Sometime during his reign (1901-1910), a Rutan invasion of Earth is averted by the Doctor at the Fang Rock lighthouse. (DW: Horror of Fang Rock)
December
- 12 - While on an expedition to the ruins of Babylon, time-sensitive linguist John Lafayette stumbles across a time path to Babylon, circa 570 B.C. (BNA: Walking to Babylon)
