Jacqui McGee was a journalist.

Biography

Early life

Jacqui won a swimming trophy when she was in school and was given a certificate for essay-writing. She once spent over a year living with her aunt, possibly because her parents were abroad. (AUDIO: The Vulpreen Encounter)

As a teenager, Jacqui visited the National Gallery to see The Ambassadors (AUDIO: The Curator's Gambit) and once had a crush on a female friend. (AUDIO: Narcissus) She studied at Heriot-Watt where she befriended Adam Merchant (AUDIO: The Enemy Beyond) and went on to become a journalist. (AUDIO: Vanguard)

The Auton invasion

She wanted an interview with Simon Devlin but couldn't get one. She impersonated an old acquaintance of Kate Stewart and knew who she was. McGee asked how quickly the technology would be distributed. She wanted to know what UNIT was. She observed an operation and Kate had her memory wiped. (AUDIO: Vanguard)

She told Kate about deaths occurring when people trued to dismantle the 3D printers. (AUDIO: Earthfall)

She then tried to expose Devlin Futuretech and when that failed, she tried to go undercover. Devlin tried to kill her but Josh Carter saved her. (AUDIO: Bridgehead)

She was brought to the Tower of London UNIT base for her protection and stayed with Osgood. (AUDIO: Armageddon)

Uncovering the Silence

McGee wanted to uncover the truths in her age. She posed as the eyewitness as a conspiracy theorist. She threatened to expose Shindi's operations. Eventually she asked Kate to meet her on the London Eye. She asked for UNIT help as she had discovered people disappearing in Helena Faversham's house, illegal works and the homeless. (AUDIO: House of Silents)

She got annoyed when Kate told her they didn't follow her tip off, but she pursued her investigations and got a list of the people who went into Faversham's house and didn't disappear, from her friend David. (AUDIO: Square One)

After the re-election of the Prime minister, she tried to get Shindi to listen to her about the Silents outside the British Rocket Group site. He took her back to London to get rid of her. She used the same technique that Osgood used to get into the Rocket Group to get the truth. Kate noticed that McGee was there and used her to UNIT's advantage in editing the Silents into the footage of the exploding space station. Kate wanted to employ her in UNIT. (AUDIO: In Memory Alone)

UNIT's ally

Jacqui put together false identities for Kate, Osgood, Shindi and Josh Carter when they went to Monte Bosque to investigate a Dalek being sold by the Auctioneers. (AUDIO: The Dalek Transaction)

Looking for a story, Jacqui helped Sam Bishop investigate monster sightings around Exousia Solutions' power station in Kent and had to contend with a Baryonyx and the Clan of War Bears. The two of them slipped back to 1971 and formed an alliance with Leif and his men, who subsequently defeated the Wampeerix. Josh returned everybody home with the Wampeerix technology and Jacqui bemoaned the fact that the story of her experiences was unpublishable. (AUDIO: The Power of River Song)

Upon becoming aware of a spate of disappearances in London, Jacqui informed Kate but was initially told that it was not within UNIT's remit. She realised that her Narcissus account had been hacked and investigated, finding Osgood's double in her form and unconscious in a hotel room, for which she lacked the clearance for an explanation. She interviewed Jordan Love and was kidnapped, but later helped UNIT clear up the debacle by reporting that the kidnapped people had been forced to farm lettuce in Norfolk. (AUDIO: Narcissus)

The Arch

Jacqui covered Adam Merchant's mission off the coast of Scotland and put him in touch with Kate when his team found the Arch. Merchant visited her after he returned from the Void World and she called Kate after seeing his hands producing webs, but he slipped away before UNIT arrived. (AUDIO: The Enemy Beyond)

Despite a news blackout, Jacqui reported on the Eleven and Ava Drake's robberies and met with Josh to discuss them. She bribed a member of Ava's gang into planting a bug and later took a boat to Middle Mouse where Osgood was analysing the Arch. There, she was taken hostage by the Eleven and Ava and thrown into the sea from a helicopter, after which Kate kept her sated by giving her access to "salacious" files on David Attenborough. (AUDIO: Eleven's Eleven)

Jacqui's investigation into Ava's death led her to the National Gallery where the Eleven captured her and took her with him into J. M. W. Turner's painting of Hampton Court Palace in the Under Gallery. The Curator saved her, but she was controlled by the Eleven until Osgood jammed his device. She then took the Eleven's disruptor and fell through the Arch, arriving on the Void World where the disruptor exploded and killed Valariss. (AUDIO: The Curator's Gambit)

Serving Varliss

Jacqui was imprisoned for Valariss's murder. (AUDIO: The Curator's Gambit) She was educated in Vulpreen history (AUDIO: The Man From Gallifrey) and brainwashed into thinking that she was one of them. (AUDIO: The Vulpreen Encounter) Lord Varliss had her released and sent her to Earth with Orgus to recover the Eleven, but Orgus was killed by Kate and Jacqui pretended that she had been a hostage.

Jacqui was taken to Harry Sullivan, (AUDIO: The Man From Gallifrey) who thought that she seemed distracted but was otherwise fine. She discharged herself. (AUDIO: Power of the Dominators)

Pretending to be oblivious, Jacqui helped the Eleven and pulled Osgood with her through a time fracture and into the future. She told Osgood to download information on the humans' weapons during their war with the Vulpreen, claiming that it would assist UNIT, but Osgood realised her true loyalty. Jacqui returned to the 2010s without Osgood and told Josh that she had died before Osgood's message on the holo-drive exposed her. (AUDIO: The War Factory) Jimmy Tan took her to a secure location. (AUDIO: Ten Minutes in Hell)

Jacqui was taken to Tromsø and tried to hold onto her human identity using photographs and clippings of her newspaper articles. Kate visited her to ask her about the asteroid ship and Varliss, whom Jacqui contacted using a Dreamstone and an Old Vulpreen chant, ordered Jacqui to kill her. Kate shocked her with an exposed wire, however, and she regained control. (AUDIO: The Vulpreen Encounter)
