Summer, born Jessica Willamy, was a poet and a member of the 1960s counterculture movement. Back home in Dallas, she was referred to as "Jess" or "Jessica", however she took on the name "Summer" when joining the counterculture movement.
In 1967, her boyfriend Denny Glass went missing in San Francisco just prior to the Human Be-In concert. She feared that he had somehow gotten mixed up with Blue Moonbeams, a then-new and dangerous version of LSD. Ben, Polly and the Second Doctor became involved in Jess' search for Denny.
