The Summer of Love was, according to Jessica Willamy, the summer of 1967, a time when "the smoky aroma of grass ... brought dreams of hope and peace and love". It was a time when the American counterculture movement was at or near its zenith. Hippies, Diggers, Vietnam War protesters and other like-minded groups were at their most optimistic. But it was simultaneously the time that the influence of such groups began to decline in the face of more conservative social values. (PROSE: Wonderland)
