Margarita Braxiatel-Matsumoto (or Matsumoto), also known as Maggie, was Irving Braxiatel's daughter.

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

Creation[[edit] | [edit source]]

Margarita Braxiatel (AUDIO: The Tub Full of Cats) was created by Irving Braxiatel from a kit he purchased in Tokyo, adding a small amount of his own DNA, (AUDIO: The Empire State) and heard him flatly comment that she was a female when she came into being. (AUDIO: The Tub Full of Cats) With energy from a stabilised black hole, she was able to reverse local time and was tasked with using this power to fix things for her father, adopting the surname "Matsumoto" from her packaging to keep their connection secret. (AUDIO: The Empire State)

Using the stone[[edit] | [edit source]]

Maggie planned to use the Stone of Barter to transmit positive energy to the planets of a particular star system to create peace and, upon learning that Bernice Summerfield was going to the ruins of the EmpireState to find it, she pretended to be an archaeologist and joined her team. (AUDIO: The Empire State) Before she did so, she was warned to keep close to Benny for her own safety. (AUDIO: The Tub Full of Cats) She lost her powers to the stone when she touched it and they were transferred to Benny, who unwittingly used them to restore an idea of the EmpireState.

With the EmpireState restored, Maggie stole the stone and worked with Saf, who had inherited instructions from Braxiatel to assist her, to collect "good vibes" from the patrons of his bar to transmit from the top of the building. She also befriended Rand Goodwin and repeatedly stopped him from destroying the building, but, when Benny found her after several days, she left him in Benny's hands. She eventually learnt that her efforts had been causing conflict on Mordita due to the energy being unstable and gave the Stone of Barter to Benny in exchange for her powers, after which Rand destroyed the EmpireState and the stone turned back into Braxiatel. (AUDIO: The Empire State)

Gravity's Rainbow[[edit] | [edit source]]

Maggie accompanied Benny and Braxiatel on their journey to the Braxiatel Collection, travelling in Gravity's Rainbow to avoid the attention of the Draconians and the Mim blockading the planetoid. She did not visit her father whilst he was hiding inside of a null field casket and passed the time playing table tennis with Benny, trying to work out Autumn Wit Chanticleer's sex and suffering from an allergy to the ship's cats.

When Chanticleer activated the de Selby-Matango Filter, Maggie encountered and freed Captain Anthony Rogers, who took her hostage once the filter was deactivated, threatening to cut her throat, and set the ship to ram the Draconian flagship. Rogers collapsed and, to keep the ship from being destroyed, Maggie took his place as the anchorite despite suspecting that she would never be able to leave as a result. After Benny and Braxiatel arrived at the Collection and Gravity's Rainbow departed, Braxiatel contacted Maggie and asked if there was a way that he could help her. She promised to dream of him and Benny and warned him that, one way or another, Benny would take care of him. (AUDIO: The Tub Full of Cats)

Legacy[[edit] | [edit source]]

Benny told Braxiatel that, having seen what happened to Maggie, he made King Lear look like "a model of good parenting". (AUDIO: Freedom of Information)

Appearance[[edit] | [edit source]]

Maggie was a "Japanese-looking" woman with shoulder-length blonde hair. She was shorter than Benny. (AUDIO: The Empire State)

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

Simon Guerrier regretted not having named Maggie "Louise" after Dr. Who's niece of the same name from Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D. (REF: Bernice Summerfield: The Inside Story)
