You may be looking for her in-universe account.

Martha Jones was a series of fictional blog posts released on 23 March to 3 July 2007[source needed] to coincide with the third series of Doctor Who, one of several web tie-ins created at that time. Joseph Lidster, a regular writer for the web tie-ins, penned this short story.

This series of web fiction broke the mold of previous web tie-in, as, opposed to Sequence developing a unique website such as Defending the Earth!, the real world social media platform MySpace was used to host the web fiction. This also functionally replaced Defending the Earth!, which had stopped being updated a short while after Mickey Smith's departure in The Age of Steel, although it lacked the interconnected nature to other tie-in websites like Defending the Earth!. Martha Jones was written from an in-universe perspective, to look as if you were reading Martha Jones's MySpace account itself; the blog continually mentioned Martha's adventures with the Doctor over the course of series three and some of the BBC New Series Adventures she appeared in too.

Due to changes to MySpace, and the account being deleted, these blogs can no longer be viewed on the MySpace website, although fan-hosted archives can be found on the internet.[1]

Plot[[edit] | [edit source]]

The first entry![[edit] | [edit source]]

Martha introduces herself, her job and colleagues, a bit about why she is becoming a doctor, and her family's... presence.

The family get-together…[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Jones family (extended) went out for a "proper celebration" of Tish's new job, leading to a screaming fight.

An odd day.[[edit] | [edit source]]

Martha saw a patient die, supported Julia after her fiance dumped her, and muses on whether she'll always be drawn to friendships where she's just an emotional support whose feelings aren't considered.

Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • In the final line of the blog, Martha notes that she's been offered a job, and that the reader "wouldn’t believe who it’s from". This was likely meant to foreshadow Martha's job at UNIT and her presence in the spin-off Torchwood.
  • In return for Lidster referencing the novel The Pirate Loop in the blog, Simon Guerrier added a mention of the MySpace blog to The Pirate Loop.[2]
