Crespallions (PROSE: Doctor Who: The Encyclopedia [+]Loading...{"page":"71","ed":"2011 reprint","1":"Doctor Who: The Encyclopedia (reference book)"}, COMIC: The Whole Thing's Bananas) were a blue-skinned race of humanoids native to the place of the same name, which was not a planet but part of the Jaggit Brocade, affiliated to the Scarlet Junction, Convex 56. (TV: The End of the World)

Dorium Maldovar was a notable Crespallion (COMIC: The Whole Thing's Bananas) and ally of the Doctor. (TV: A Good Man Goes to War et al.)

Biology[[edit] | [edit source]]

Humanoid, Crespallions were distinguished from humans by their skin which came in varying shades of blue. Unlike humans, Crespallion lips typically matched the colour of their skin. (TV: The End of the World, The Pandorica Opens) They ranged dramatically in size from tall individuals to those the size of children. (TV: The End of the World)

The eye colours of Crespalliions varied; while a number had yellow eyes, (TV: The End of the World) some such as Dorium had eyes not unlike humans. (TV: The Pandorica Opens)

Culture[[edit] | [edit source]]

Certain Crespallions, such as the steward of Platform One were distinguished by black facial markings, and a jewel embedded into the forehead. While their lips naturally matched the colour of their skin, Raffalo had lips marked black. (TV: The End of the World) Other Crespallions, such as Dorium Maldovar, had no such markings. (TV: The Pandorica Opens)

On Platform One, while the steward interacted with guests, Crespallion workers such as Raffalo required permission from guests to speak to them. Alternatively, the shorter workers communicated with the Ninth Doctor through non-verbal means, providing him with a card which read "Have a nice day." (TV: The End of the World)

Crespallions were among the various species of ultramarine skin colour whom joyfully celebrated Blue Monday on 24 January, others including the Balhoonians, Stenza and Hooloovoo. (PROSE: Time Traveller's Diary)

History[[edit] | [edit source]]

Dorium was a Crespallion who became an ally of the Doctor. (COMIC: The Whole Thing's Bananas)

Many Crespallions were on Villengard, as a concerned Dorium Maldovar pointed out, when the War Doctor planned to destroy the weapons factories using a molecular fruit bomb to prevent their being used by the Daleks during the Last Great Time War. (COMIC: The Whole Thing's Bananas)

Dorium was the assistant of bar owner Senor Bensteth before he was fired. On the suggestion of the War Doctor, (COMIC: The Whole Thing's Bananas) Dorium opened up his own bar, the Maldovarium, which was visited by River Song in 5145. (TV: The Pandorica Opens) Ultimately, Dorium was forced to close down his bar before being collected by the Eleventh Doctor for the Battle of Demons Run, where he was beheaded by the Headless Monks, who inducted him into their order. (TV: A Good Man Goes to War) However, Dorium's head survived and reunited with the Doctor. (TV: The Wedding of River Song)

By 5,000,000,000, a Crespallion served as a steward hosting numerous events on Platforms One, Three, Six and Platform Fifteen. While hosting Earth Death in the year 5,000,000,000, the steward oversaw a Crespallion staff which included Raffalo, a plumber. Shortly prior to the destruction of the planet Earth, the steward and Raffalo were among those who were killed as a result of sabotage to the sun filters inflicted by metal spiders used by Lady Cassandra O'Brien.Δ17. (TV: The End of the World)

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • According to Doctor Who: The Encyclopedia, the males were about the size of humans, while the females were no taller than a human child.
  • Possible other Crespallions, who both have the similar blue-skin likened to the species, are Dahh-Ren in Oxygen and Jorj in World Enough and Time. However, both characters are only described as non-human.
  • The Crespallions are the first original alien species to appear in the 2005 iteration of the show.
  • During production of Doctor Who in 2004, Russell T Davies and Phil Collinson complained of difficulty in finding actors of small stature to portray the Crespallions in The End of the World as "bloody Gringotts and the Chocolate Factory are filming at the same time."[1]
