This topic might have a better name.

TARDIS control room (The TV Movie)

Talk about it here.

At some point near the end of the Seventh Doctor's life, he began to use a TARDIS control room which resembled a Victorian parlour. This console room was then inherited by the Eighth Doctor (TV: Doctor Who), who used it with the majority of his companions. (PROSE: The Eight Doctors, The Taint, Interference, AUDIO: Storm Warning, Blood of the Daleks, The Great War, et al.)

By one account, this was a standard TARDIS desktop theme known as the Victorian desktop. (GAME: The Time Traveller's Companion [+]Loading...["The Time Traveller's Companion (game)"])

Appearance[[edit] | [edit source]]

This console room was much larger than any that came before or after it. Additionally, the actual TARDIS control console was not the main feature - like most other models - but instead one feature in the middle. A homely fireplace was in one corner, with an arm chair next to it, which the Doctor often read in. The walls all around where covered in books, including in an alcove to the side. Contrasting with the Doctor's prior console room(s), this one was not at all evenly lit, with multiple light sources focusing attention on different areas, creating an all-round homely feel. (TV: Doctor Who).

History[[edit] | [edit source]]

Origin[[edit] | [edit source]]

Accounts differed on the origin of this console room, with one claiming it was the "secondary" console room when compared to the white console room he had used prior, whilst also claiming it was actually the intended-primary one, with the white console room being originally intended as the secondary one, (PROSE: The Dying Days [+]Loading...["The Dying Days (novel)","The Dying Days"]) whilst many others suggested it was physically the same console room he had used prior, but redisgned for a variety of possible reasons, including:

  • Copying it from the House of Lungbarrow after the Seventh Doctor temporarily severed the link between its exterior and interior to prevent his family from stealing it. (PROSE: Lungbarrow [+]Loading...["Lungbarrow (novel)","Lungbarrow"])
  • The Doctor, Ace and Hex did some "redecorating" of the TARDIS. (AUDIO: The Settling [+]Loading...["The Settling (audio story)","The Settling"]) The Doctor's original TARDIS' console room would briefly revert back to its previous design after it dematerialised from the pocket dimension he had used to imprison the Elder Gods Albert and Peggy, leaving Ace and Hex behind, while his newly grown "Black TARDIS" used its "mother"'s Victorian configuration up until its eventual destruction. (AUDIO: Black and White [+]Loading...["Black and White (audio story)","Black and White"]) Following this, the TARDIS console room was restored to its Victorian layout, (AUDIO: Gods and Monsters [+]Loading...["Gods and Monsters (audio story)","Gods and Monsters"]) being briefly changed to a white configuration after To'Koth used it to return to the home dimension of the Elder Gods, (AUDIO: Signs and Wonders [+]Loading...["Signs and Wonders (audio story)","Signs and Wonders"]) before reverting to the Victorian layout. (AUDIO: Fiesta of the Damned [+]Loading...["Fiesta of the Damned (audio story)","Fiesta of the Damned"])
  • The Seventh Doctor had simply built it. (AUDIO: {{cs|Excelis Decays (audio story)|Excelis Decays]])

Companions[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Eighth Doctor initially used this console room when travelling with Sam Jones (PROSE: The Eight Doctors et al.), Fitz Kreiner (PROSE: The Taint et al.), Compassion (PROSE: Interference - Book Two), Charlotte Pollard (AUDIO: Storm Warning et al.), C'rizz (AUDIO: The Creed of the Kromon et al.), Lucie Miller (AUDIO: Blood of the Daleks et al.), Molly O'Sullivan (AUDIO: The Great War), Liv Chenka (AUDIO: The Traitor et al.), and Helen Sinclair (AUDIO: The Red Lady et al.)

Edifice[[edit] | [edit source]]

Main article: The Edifice (The Ancestor Cell)

Following the destruction of the TARDIS in a dimensional tear (PROSE: The Shadows of Avalon), and influence from the Eighth Doctor's biodata virus (PROSE: Interference), the TARDIS reconstructed itself as a massive bone-like structure, which caused its interior to appear to be made of bone, although it was otherwise the same. (PROSE: The Ancestor Cell (novel)). Following the Faction Paradox invasion of Gallifrey, The Doctor's TARDIS console room went temporarily dorment whilst it recovered (PROSE: The Burning), before gaing a new appearance. (PROSE: Escape Velocity.

Stranded in 2020[[edit] | [edit source]]

After the TARDIS was drained by the Ravenous and crashed in 2020, the interior collapsed. (AUDIO: Lost Property) When the TARDIS began to restore itself after latching onto a paradox, the console room was on “window mode” enabling the crew to see the TARDIS’ surroundings whilst indoors, including whilst in flight. (AUDIO: Divine Intervention, Dead Time, Baker Street Irregulars)

Last Great Time War[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Eighth Doctor was still using the original parlour room during his travels with Josie Day (COMIC: Music of the Spherions) as well as during the Last Great Time War (PROSE: Natural Regression, Ghost of Christmas Past, AUDIO: Lies in Ruins) and at the time of his regeneration into the War Doctor, (PROSE: The Day of the Doctor) who went on to use another control room. (COMIC: The Clockwise War, TV: The Day of the Doctor)

The TARDIS later reverted back to this design during the three years the ship was used by the Third Power to keep the Valley open. Cora believed the TARDIS had done this due to her wanting the War Doctor to be who he used to be. When the War Doctor returned to the ship he was followed by Morbius and in their ensuing fight he inverted the TARDIS’ gravity and then shattered the scanner ceiling, expelling Morbius out of the TARDIS. After leaving the Valley the TARDIS returned to the War Doctor’s chosen design. (AUDIO: Morbius the Mighty [+]Loading...["Morbius the Mighty (audio story)"])
