Northumbria

You may be looking for the county of Northumberland.

Within Northern Britain, (PROSE: The Whoniverse [+]Loading...["The Whoniverse (novel)"]) Northumbria included the area later known as Northern England and North Yorkshire. (PROSE: A History of Humankind [+]Loading...["A History of Humankind (novel)"], TV: The Curse of Fenric, PROSE: The Curse of Fenric) It was historically the location of Maiden's Point. (TV: The Curse of Fenric)

History[[edit] | [edit source]]

Vikings invaded twice on their way down from Scandinavia.

In 943, Vikings buried a flask containing Fenric in the town of Maiden's Point. The Haemovore known as the Ancient One followed them and over generations transformed several people into Haemovores. (TV: The Curse of Fenric)

In 991, Burtnoth was Earl of Northumbria. (AUDIO: The Battle)

In 1039, the Fourth Doctor visited the nunnery Tilling Abbey in Northumbria. (AUDIO: A Sting in the Tale)

In the late summer of 1066, a Viking scouting party arrived to make way for Harald Hardrada's invasion of England. The Monk planned to destroy the Viking longship fleet with an atomic cannon in order to prevent their landing, thus negating the reduction in Harold Godwinson's force strength before the Battle of Hastings and preventing the Norman victory under William the Conqueror. The plan was foiled when Saxons from Wulnoth's village ran the Monk and the Vikings out of the Monk's monastery. (TV: The Time Meddler)

20th century[[edit] | [edit source]]

During the latter part of World War II in 1943, Fenric was released via ULTIMA, an early computer installed at Maiden's Point. The Seventh Doctor fought back both Fenric and the Haemovores. (TV: The Curse of Fenric)

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

As well as Northern England, Northumbria also encompassed the south of Scotland.
