The West Indies were, at least in 1746, British colonies.

Early history[[edit]]

The potato, which was first grown in South America, was brought from the West Indies to England by Spanish sailors. (GAME: The Gunpowder Plot [+]Loading...["The Gunpowder Plot (video game)"])

In 1746, the English solicitor Grey led a scheme in that year to transplant Scots there under the false impression that they would be able to work off their passage after seven years of labour. In fact, the Scots were really being made slaves to work plantations there. Had not the Second Doctor intervened, Jamie McCrimmon and Ben Jackson would have both ended up in the West Indies as slaves. (TV: The Highlanders)
