Aspects of the Sisterhood of Karn are derived from the Victorian adventure-romance ''{{w|She: A History of Adventure}}'' by H. Rider Haggard. These include the matriarchal, quasi-religious order which holds the secret of immortality, a secret which is associated with a secret fire.

The Sisterhood also resemble the Bene Gesserit sisterhood in the book series ''Dune'' by Frank Herbert. The term "reverend mother" is used by the Bene Gesserit, and "elixir of life" is similar to a Bene Gesserit term.

After the Last Great Time War[[edit] | [edit source]]

Despite their wartime alliance, Rassilon was annoyed to find that the Sisterhood was still active at the end of the universe when Gallifrey was returned. (PROSE: A Brief History of Time Lords)

After meeting (and abandoning) a young Davros on the battlefields of Skaro, the Twelfth Doctor visited Ohila on Karn, hiding himself from the universe so effectively that no one could find him. While the Sisterhood gave him refuge, the servant of Davros known as the Colony Sarff visited Karn in their search for the Doctor. However, Ohila warned Sarff that the Doctor was not one to be trifled with, and when the Colony became angered and threatened the Sisterhood she informed them that their powers were useless on Karn. Thwarted, Colony Sarff departed, leaving Ohila with an ominous message for the Doctor — "Davros knows, Davros remembers." (TV: The Magician's Apprentice)

Seeing that the Doctor was deeply troubled by this, Ohila attempted to comfort him, and warned him against heeding the summons of his old foe, but the Doctor could not be dissuaded. After failing to change his mind about the meeting, Ohila agreed to deliver the Doctor's confession dial. The Doctor told her that he would stay a little while before going to meet his ancient enemy. (WC: Prologue) The Doctor's confession dial was then delivered to Missy. (TV: The Magician's Apprentice)

Some members of the Sisterhood visited Gallifrey on hearing the Twelfth Doctor had returned from the torture of his confession dial, Ohila citing the reason for her visit as "One so loves fireworks." (TV: Hell Bent)

Alternative timelines[[edit] | [edit source]]

In a negated timeline, Cristophe Zarodnix purchased Karn from the Sisterhood. From there he used a fragment of Morbius' brain and the genes of Straxus to recreate Morbius, who from there ruled an empire. When the Eighth Doctor turned off Morbius' Stellar Manipulator, the Time Lords prevented this Empire from forming, however, Morbius fell with the Doctor into a chasm, which still happened despite the timeline being prevented. (AUDIO: Sisters of the Flame/The Vengeance of Morbius) However, the Doctor was saved by the Sisterhood and transported to Orbis. (AUDIO: Orbis)

During the Cybermen’s conquest of time, the Twelfth Doctor crash landed on Karn and asked Ohila to take him to the Sisterhood's back door to Gallifrey. Ohila was reluctant at first, but after the weapons-grade Cybermen began to attack the Sisterhood, she showed him to the door. After the Doctor went through it, Ohila sealed the door behind him, trying to protect Gallifrey from a Cyberman invasion, unaware they had already taken control of the planet and Rassilon. The Cybermen's conquest of time was later undone by the Doctor and Rassilon. (COMIC: Supremacy of the Cybermen)
