He aided in the help of sealing the wormhole but refused to close the hole until the Doctor was out, even when he was held at gunpoint by [[Erisa Magambo|Captain Erisa Magambo]]. When the Doctor came back through, Malcolm successfully had closed the wormhole and Magambo put down her gun. After the events he met the Doctor for the first time in person and he was exstatic to meet him. During this time, Malcolm's state of dress was similar to that of the [[Fourth Doctor]], though this was probably an unintentional occurrence on his part.
