Jabe Ceth Ceth Jafe (PROSE: Monsters and Villains [+]Loading...["Monsters and Villains (reference book)"], Doctor Who: The Encyclopedia [+]Loading...["Doctor Who: The Encyclopedia (reference book)"]) was a representative of the Forest of Cheem.
Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]
In the year 5,000,000,000, Jabe had come to see the destruction of Earth from Platform One. Her ancestors were from a tropical rainforest on Earth.
Upon meeting the Ninth Doctor, she took an immediate interest in him. After discovering his true heritage using a metal machine, she felt grief at the loss of an entire species, with him as the only survivor. She captured a metal spider, which revealed Lady Cassandra as being behind the sabotage on the platform and the death of the Steward. As a backup plan, Cassandra blew up her other spiders, disabling the platform's safety.
In the air conditioning, Jabe sacrificed her life by holding down the switch that allowed the Doctor to pass through the fans and reactivate the safety. She burnt to death under the immense heat that came through. (TV: The End of the World [+]Loading...["The End of the World (TV story)"])
Legacy[[edit] | [edit source]]
Jabe was survived by cuttings such as Sapling Vale. A shuttle terminus on New Earth was named after her. In light of Jabe's sacrifice, the Tenth Doctor felt he had a debt to pay to her people, which led him to investigate murders in the New Forest. (AUDIO: Death in the New Forest [+]Loading...["Death in the New Forest (audio story)"])
The Tenth Doctor recalled Jabe, along with others, when Davros made him think about all those who died in his name. (TV: Journey's End [+]Loading...["Journey's End (TV story)"])
The Eleventh Doctor remembered how Jabe fancied him. (TV: The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe [+]Loading...["The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe (TV story)"])
Personality[[edit] | [edit source]]
In her brief time with the Doctor, Jabe revealed herself to be kind, gentle, clever, and brave. Of all the partygoers, only Jabe suspected the Doctor's true identity, and when her suspicions were confirmed, she sought to befriend him, expressing grief over his loss and sympathy for his loneliness. She accompanied the Doctor in his quest below decks to manually restore the shields, even though she knew that her wooden body was in danger from the rising heat. In the end, she was willing to sacrifice her life to help the Doctor save the other guests on Platform One. (TV: The End of the World [+]Loading...["The End of the World (TV story)"])
