2000s
Professor Malcolm Taylor was one of UNIT's foremost scientific advisors. He was a Welshman and had read all UNIT files on the Doctor, who he idolised. He preceded the Doctor in working out how to close the wormhole created by the Swarm (Planet of the Dead), leading the Doctor to describe him as "brilliant"" and his "new best friend." It is also stated during the course of the episode that Malcolm is one of the few people to have ever hung up the phone on the Doctor. When Captain Erisa Magambo ordered him to close the wormhole, he refused, in order to allow the Doctor to get back to earth. He made a passionate stand even when Magambo held him at gunpoint. Once the Doctor came through, he proceded to close the wormhole just ahead of the main swarm, but after three Swarm creatures had already come through. After the Swarm were shot down, he met the Doctor for the first time in person and proclaimed "I love you!" four times.

Professor Taylor also made his own measurements, including:

*Malcolms - He described one Malcolm as a wavelength parcel of ten KH/Z operating in 4 dimensions equals one malcolm. He came up with the idea to name a form of measurement after himself from James Watt, saying "it didn't do him any harm."
