Worldbuilding[[edit] | [edit source]]
- The Sontarans are a clone race from the planet Sontar. They revel in warfare and blindly believe in the 'honour' of battle.
- Sontarans are tough, hardy soldiers but have a weakness; a blow to a Sontaran's probic vent, a small, circular aperture at the back of their necks, can kill or render the warrior unconscious.
- The Sontarans invaded Gallifrey in an attempt to harness Time Lord technology to conquer the universe. They were defeated by the Doctor.
- Sontarans again tried to unlock the secret of time travel in 20th century Spain.
- A massive Sontaran fleet attempted an invasion on Earth in the early 21st century, but the Tenth Doctor and Luke Rattigan thwarted their plans to destroy mankind.
- In the distant future, Field Major Styre conducted a series of experiments on humans, ahead of a planned invasion. The Doctor persuaded Sontaran High Command that without Styre's findings, an invasion would be folly.
- Highly intelligent, Linx was a commander in the Fifth Sontaran Battle Group. Linx crashed in 13th century England and was killed by Hal the archer.
- Kaagh was a commander attached to the Tenth Sontaran Battle Fleet. He sought revenge on the Doctor and Luke Rattigan but failed. He briefly became a mercenary working with Wormwood. It didn't end well.
- Strax was a commander but later served as a nurse. Now a member of the Paternoster Gang alongside Vastra and Jenny Flint, he is a butler, a medic and a soldier.
- Strax was once a 'normal', warlike Sontaran who dreamt of dying in combat. He is now an ally and friend of the Doctor, fighting evil and injustice, there is much to hope for in Strax.
