Ray Wilson was a left-back for the victorious England national football team during the 1966 World Cup Final against West Germany. Though usually a rock-solid player, Wilson failed to clear a German cross. Later, during extra time, he slip to steal the ball, which inspired tremendous applause from the crowd at Wembley Stadium.
