Ernest Newbold was a staff member at Coal Hill School. He had previously been a teacher but was now semi-retired.
In the autumn term of 1963 he had been asked by H. Parson to help with the day to day running of the school while the Headmaster was busy interviewing for several vacancies.
He became suspicious of the new supply teacher Dr. Song when the references on her application turned out to be either made up or else couldn't be verified at all. He therefore asked Dr. Song to leave the school premises immediately, much to the annoyance of Ian Chesterton. (AUDIO: An Unearthly Woman)
