Gone was the fourth short story in the The Lucy Wilson Mysteries series' free online anthology The Lucy Wilson Collection: School Children, all of whose entries were written by schoolchildren. It is, as such, the first published work of young Gene Turner.

Walking along the pier one afternoon, Hobo Kostinen becomes transfixed by an alien metallic gleam on the seabed, which ends up mesmerising him to the point of unconsciousness. Hobo falls limply into the water, believing he is about to die, and is dragged into the darkness.
Lost and aimless without her best friend by her side, Lucy eventually learns of Hobo's mysterious disappearance through the school newspaper.
