In anticipation of (PROSE: Birth of the Legend) or during the Last Great Time War, (PROSE: A Brief History of Time Lords, et. al) the Dalek Emperor assembled four Daleks who had shown initiative to become the Cult of Skaro, (PROSE: Birth of the Legend) tasking the new order to use imagination and "think as the enemy thinks". Consisting of Dalek Sec, the leader, Thay, Jast, and Caan, the Cult of Skaro escaped the universe to the Void in a Void Ship known as the Sphere. As such, they survived the near-extinction of the Daleks and, when they emerged within the Torchwood Tower on Earth in 2007, were believed by the Tenth Doctor to be the last surviving Daleks in existence.
However, they had brought with them the Genesis Ark, a dimensionally transcendental prison ship stolen from the Time Lords, which contained millions of Daleks. They soon came into conflict with an army of Cybermen who had crossed over from a parallel universe in the Sphere's wake.
