Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

During the 1890s, Charles was working as a sailor in the Royal Navy, aboard the HMS Atropos. He was recruited to Torchwood Cardiff at some point by its leader, Emily Holroyd.

In 1899, Gaskell was working at Torchwood. When Jack Harkness went missing under mysterious circumstances, he was asked to investigate Sir Henry Montague. Seeking to hide his involvement, Montague hired Tice and McQuaid, two of Gaskell's old Navy friends, to kill him and cover it up, but Gaskell incapacitated them. When Torchwood investigated the HMS Hades, he was the one to eventually blow it up after it was found to be a lab for experimenting on aliens. After being told of underground energy signals by Alice Guppy in 1901, he began digging at the location. There, he discovered a version of Jack from the future buried twenty feet underground. He had been buried by Gray and John Hart in 27 AD. Charles and Alice interrogated Jack, believing him to be the Jack from their relative time. Jack avoided answering his questions and instead asked to be placed in the morgue and frozen. Jack was eventually placed cryogenic suspension until the 21st century so that he could avoid crossing his own timeline, (TV: Exit Wounds [+]Loading...["Exit Wounds (TV story)"]) per Emily's strict instructions. In 1906, Gaskell and his team discovered alien cryo-tech, which was later utilised for regular use. (PROSE: The Twilight Streets [+]Loading...["The Twilight Streets (novel)"]) On 17 March that same year, He visited the site of an explosion in Penylan, and noticed signs of non-contemporaneous material and temporal flux in the area after his Chronometer Device "threw a fit". Alice Guppy later noted this in an incident report on the matter. (PROSE: The House That Jack Built [+]Loading...["The House That Jack Built (novel)"])
