Publisher's summary[[edit] | [edit source]]
It’s 1943 and the village of Westbourne has been invaded...not by the enemy, but by the allies. The American troops are ‘over here’ and enjoying themselves mightily.
Except there’s someone else visiting the village. And not just the new barmaid, Margaret. Or her unusual friends, Leela and the Doctor. Something with a sinister agenda all its own.

Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Dainty Company was inspired by the real-life Easy Company, known to popular culture as the Band of Brothers. During a visit to a pub in Oldbourne. writer Chris Chapman saw the framed minutes of a meeting held there by Easy Company shortly before their departure to France. Chapman used this as the basis for the story's setting and sought to explore how the American soldiers spent their last days in Britain before the invasion. (BFX: The Friendly Invasion) In the story itself, one of the soldiers does make a quick reference to E Company.
- Despite the synopsis claiming the story takes place in 1943, the dialogue explicitly dates the story to 4 June 1944, just ahead of the D-Day landings. The one reference to 1943 in the story is as the year of Dainty Company's formation.
- Scorched Earth, released as part of the Main Range in 2020, was also a wartime story written by Chapman. It was set between 4 and 6 July 1944, exactly one month after The Friendly Invasion takes place.
Continuity[[edit] | [edit source]]
- The Doctor was drawn to Westbourne to investigate traces of zygma energy. (TV: The Talons of Weng-Chiang)
