Introductionedit source
As I've both watched and helped our collection of Real world series with DWU connections pages grow, I couldn't help but think that these pages could do with their own types of infoboxes. It would have the usual fields like release date and publisher/company of origin, but then maybe sections that highlight relevant media and what year(s) they were "active".
It should look something like this (using Sonic the Hedgehog as an example):
-

Discussionedit source
I like this idea and I have a couple of suggestions myself. These are fields I commonly use and feel are helpful.
- |name =
- |image =
- |main character =
- |setting =
- |enemy =
- |writer =
- |plural writer =
- |genre =
- |bts =
- |trailer =
- |fullvid =
These few could be good for television series. They may need a similar sort of "|plural writer =" field for any of these fields that have multiple individuals working those jobs.
- |director =
- |editor =
- |producer =
A new field could be good for series with a sole creator, such as Alex Hirsch.
- |creator =
- I can put this together soon, assuming no-one has any major objections. Bongo50 ☎ 18:35, 10 July 2023 (UTC)
- Seems basically sound, but is there a particular reason we would need different "writer=" and "plural writer=" variables, instead of a single "writer(s)"? By which same token it strikes me that we may as well put parenthetical "(s)"s on several other fields, not least of which "|main character=", which would enable us to, for example, link both Kirk, Picard and whoever else at Star Trek (franchise).
- I also think "media" is a bit vague, especially as not all stories in "Real-world series with DWU connections" have necessarily had official crossovers. "Official DWU crossover(s)" would seem to be a clearer field. I'm agnostic as to whether we also need an "Unofficial DWU crossover(s)" field, or whatever. Scrooge MacDuck ⊕ 12:26, 14 July 2023 (UTC)
- I assume that Epsilon is refering to the |plural writer= parameter I added to Infobox Story. The infobox checks the |writer= field for things like ",", "&" or "and" that would indicate that there are multiple writers listed. When one of these is detected, the label is automatically is pluralised to "writers". Setting |plural writer= to any value forces the label to be pluralised to "writers". - I'd rather change "main setting" into "relevant locations" that covers the locations that show up in the crossover media, and combine "main character" and "enemy" into "relevant characters" for the same reason. I'd also like to stress that "relevant media" be in there too. WaltK ☎ 16:07, 14 July 2023 (UTC)
Conclusionedit source
Well, it seems there was no dissent about the basic principle. With the asterisk of provisionally accepting User:WaltK's suggestion of "relevant media", "relevant characters" and "relevant locations", I leave implementations in the capable mechanical hands of User:Bongolium500 at his leisure. If further fine-tunings become necessary, they can be discussed on Template talk:Infobox Crossover. Thanks to those who participated! Scrooge MacDuck ⊕ 17:10, 19 August 2023 (UTC)
