Made You Look was the twelfth story in the Torchwood - Monthly Range by Big Finish Productions. It was written by Guy Adams and featured Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper.

Publisher's summary[[edit] | [edit source]]

"It stalks you. It whispers. It wants you to turn around. It wants you to look. But if you do... If you see it..."

Talmouth is a lonely seaside town. No-one has heard from it for days. No-one who goes in comes out. Something has happened to Talmouth. Has it been taken over by aliens? Or is it something far, far worse?

Gwen Cooper's come to Talmouth to find out. What's happened has to be seen to be believed. But by the time you've seen it, you're already dead.

Plot[[edit] | [edit source]]

After seeing a video of two people dying in Talmouth, Gwen goes to investigate the deserted town and catches a glimpse of the Darkness out of the corner of her; if she sees it two more times, it says, she will die. She meets James, a homeless man who explains that the Darkness has killed almost the entire town in only three days, but he runs away when he hears the Darkness's voice and dies when he sees it for the third time. Gwen catches her second glimpse as the Darkness feeds on James, needing to see what it was doing to him, and then goes looking for other survivors.

Gwen meets Mrs Rhodes, who is unaware of the situation in Talmouth because of her blindness, at Barchester Rest and runs away with her when she detects the Darkness with her superior hearing. They flee to the beach when the fog thickens and cars start driving themselves at them, although Mrs Rhodes points out that she was safe anyway given her blindness, and they walk for over an hour as the beach seems to stretch. The Darkness disturbs Gwen by showing her a vision of Mrs Rhodes sewing her fingers together and tries to get her to see him by mimicking Mrs Rhodes's voice, but she realises the deception as she never told her her name.

Told by the Darkness that Rhys is on his way to Talmouth, Gwen keeps trying to call him and has Mrs Rhodes, once she finds her, lead her to the promenade whilst she keeps her eyes closed. The Darkness tries to tempt her into opening her eyes by claiming that her questions about his nature would be answered if she did so and by telling her that Rhys's car is approaching, but Mrs Rhodes reveals that this is not the case. They walk away from the Darkness and Gwen opens her eyes when she hears Rhys arrive.
