Anyone know which specific episode of Years and Years Guinevere was mentioned in, because I'm fairly sure that it would qualify for coverage under [[Talk:The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (series)]] and RTD's shared universe quotes, and to start a debate about it I need to have watched it. Anyone know which specific episode of Years and Years Guinevere was mentioned in, because I'm fairly sure that it would qualify for coverage under Talk:The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (series) and RTD's shared universe quotes, and to start a debate about it I need to have watched it. Alternatively, somebody who's watched it could start a forum thread. Either or. :) Aquanafrahudy 📢 17:04, 31 July 2023 (UTC)
- I'm not sure about outright validity. There are other connections between Y&Y and Who which are much less literal or suggestive of Rule 4. Seems like a case for {{NCmaterial}}. – n8 (☎) 17:49, 31 July 2023 (UTC)
- Well, there's the following quote from RTD, which certainly seems to be rule 4 affirmation:
- RTD: Oh, sometimes I think I’m writing one long script. I think every show I’ve ever written fits into one big world. Bob & Rose could bump into Harold Saxon any day. I’m not just being glib – I kind of think about the things I write about all day long. That’s nothing unique, we all have stuff that we dwell on for the whole of our lives. So, yes, something I wrote ten years ago might surface in Scene 67 tomorrow. But it wasn’t ten years ago for me; it was always there.
- [1]
- And I might be wrong, but I think that because of T:BOUND, the minor licensed appearances thing on Talk:The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is current policy. So the episode of Years and Years that Guinevere is mentioned in might be a candidate for coverage? (I haven't watched the series in question, so there might be something I'm missing.) - Well, there's the following quote from RTD, which certainly seems to be rule 4 affirmation:
- It should definitely be hashed out in a thread before action is taken, IMO. For one thing, Years & Years is more of a single six-part serial than a "series" — I don't think the episodes even have individual titles. So I think it would have to be all-in or all-out in terms of coverage (NCMaterial notwithstanding). I hadn't realised the much-vaunted general-purpose RTD Rule 4 quote was specifically in the context of a Years & Years interview, so that's interesting… Scrooge MacDuck ⊕ 20:46, 31 July 2023 (UTC)
- See also Ruth Lyons. Najawin ☎ 04:01, 1 January 2024 (UTC)

- I haven't watched the series, but I looked up "Years and Years characters"... is it because there are multiple characters with the same surname in the series? Cookieboy 2005 ☎ 10:22, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
Moreso "my family's too complicated for words", which indicates intent to be in that family imo. The character itself is named after an Eastenders character. Najawin ☎ 19:08, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
- I didn't read that line as suggesting that the social worker was related to Lulubelle. – NateBumber (☎) 15:15, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
- I think Najawin's saying that the line was suggesting the social worker was related to the family from Years and Years. Aquanafrahudy 📢 🖊️ 15:20, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
- Let me be clearer. I understand what Najawin's saying, but the line in question is about Lulubelle's family, not Ruth's.
- RUTH: So, it's a section 20. We'd have kept little Lulubelle on the ward, but we haven't got the staff.
- CARLA: What happened to the mum?
- RUTH: Just can't cope. And the family is too complicated for words. But I'm hopeful. I think she'll be with you five or six days? Till we can see what's what.
- The foster care system is for taking care of children temporarily until they can be reunited with their families. So when Carla asks about "the mum", she's asking about Lulubelle's mother, and when Ruth replies with a further remark about "the family", she's referring to the rest of Lulubelle's relatives, answering the implicit question of why Lulubelle wasn't placed with (for instance) a grandparent. The entire conversation is about Lulubelle, and Ruth and Lulubelle aren't related, so it has no bearing on the Lyons family.
- Let me be clearer. I understand what Najawin's saying, but the line in question is about Lulubelle's family, not Ruth's.
- I love Years and Years and would love for this to be a reference, but I think in this case, the social worker named Ruth Lyons is an EastEnders reference and that's it. – NateBumber (☎) 15:45, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
