Doctor Who[1] was an immersive waxwork exhibit in the Blackpool branch of Madame Tussauds,[2] publicly opened in October 2018,[nb 1] under license from BBC Studios.
In March 2022, the exhibit was given its first and only major update, with the addition of a waxwork of Dan Lewis and a Weeping Angel prop borrowed from the BBC.[6]

Characters[[edit] | [edit source]]
Worldbuilding[[edit] | [edit source]]
- The Doctor tells you she wants to sort out "fair play throughout the universe."
- Birds sing in the treetops.
Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Ray Holman was commissioned to produce the costume for this waxwork.[2] The head was sculpted by Stephen Mansfield, who had previously provided visual effects during the Sylvester McCoy era of Doctor Who.[4]
- Jodie Whittaker was involved in the creation of the waxwork, where she attended a sitting and reviewed it for its accuracy.[2][7]
- The Dan Lewis waxwork had been repurposed from a pre-existing waxwork of John Bishop, that had been displayed in the Blackpool branch since 2015.[6]
- The exhibit's opening was covered by Blue Peter presenter Radzi Chinyanganya. Kate Shane, head of Cluster Attractions, announced later that day they had plans for future additions to the exhibit.[4] The opening was attended by many Doctor Who fans, David Boyle and Julie Whitfield (who had run the Blackpool Doctor Who Exhibition from 1974 to 1985) and Doctor Who Magazine's Dan Freeman.[4]
- Whitfield felt that a possible expansion for the exhibit could be something such as a cross-section of the different decades of the show or incarnations of the Doctor. In particular, she said she would like a display with the Fourth Doctor and Bessie (admitting she was a little biased as she and Boyle owned a Bessie replica which was popular at local events).[4]
- The 2018 Doctor Who theme played within the exhibit.
- The minisode Meet the Thirteenth Doctor [+]Loading...["Meet the Thirteenth Doctor (TV story)"] played on a television screen before the main part of the exhibit.[8]
- At other points during the exhibit's lifetime, there was another screen showing a montage of the Doctor's regenerations[9] and the 2018 Doctor Who ident,[10] a greenscreen for photographs,[4] portraits of the First through Thirteenth Doctors,[8] and a collection of costumes from Series 11 in a second room that the exhibit exited into.[10][11]
- These costumes included: Tzim-Sha, Espo, Angstrom, Rosa Parks, a SniperBot, Astos, Thijarians, a Kerb!am Man, King James I, Becka Savage, the Ux, the Reconnaissance Dalek, and Lin.
- By 2021, the exhibit was moved to a smaller room and the Series 11 costumes were removed.[8]
Continuity[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Although most of the details were altered in their transition from screen to a physical set, the forest is the very same forest from TV: Meet the Thirteenth Doctor [+]Loading...["Meet the Thirteenth Doctor (TV story)"], the Thirteenth Doctor's first onscreen appearance outside of TV: Deep Breath [+]Loading...["Deep Breath (TV story)"].

Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- ↑ The exact opening date is a matter of contradiction between sources. The official Madame Tussauds website gave the opening date as 16 October 2018,[2] and a Radio Times article released the following day claimed the exhibit was open,[3] while the Still Life feature in DWM 532 claimed that 18 October was the public opening,[4] and DWM 531's instalment of Gallifrey Guardian claimed the exhibit opened on 19 October.[5]
