Spoilers are strongly policed here.
If this thread's title doesn't specify it's spoilery, don't bring any up.
"I do what I do because it's right! Because it's decent! And above all, it's kind. It's just that. Just kind. If I run away today, good information will remain unknown. If I stand and fight, some of it might be read by others. Maybe not many, maybe not for long. Hey, you know, maybe there's no point in any of this at all, but it's the best I can do, so I'm going to do it. Without hope. Without witness. Without reward."Editors who write obscure pages, probably [src]
"Wow okay nevermind, its pretty cool being witnessed."Same guys after 500 people see their work

Hi all, posting this in Forum:The Panopticon because it seems to best fit this category, but it doesn't fit well into any of the forum categories.

A chief concern of a recently forked wiki is establishing readership, and to that end Tardis Wiki has been actively building a following for itself on Twitter after our forking announcement there got lots of eyes. With the permission of User:Bongolium500, I have been posting daily highlights of articles/topics on Tardis Wiki, often with a humorous slant, to reasonable success for the past month. Taking control of a general swathe of fandom’s perception is vital; the humans must think we are “cool”, “relatable”, and “switched on”.

An average tweet gets 400-600 views, but more successful ones have reached over 2000 views and one good one got 11,500 views. As a vague figure, a tweet with 400-600 eyes might result in 9-15 people clicking the link which takes them to the relevant Tardis Wiki page. The same general ratio applies as we go up, such that about 1.4% of viewers of the tweet with 11,500 views clicked the link there, resulting in 169 direct clicks on Twitter. These numbers may not account for people copying the link, as well as people who see the tweet and share the topic with others on other platforms, but they give an approximation. Much depends on the actual topics, and some popular tweets have resulted in minimal link clicks due to the tweet itself containing all the information people needed to know. Followers increase daily, so some numbers may shift as time goes on. (We have also had at least one editor join from Twitter, so that has been a delight.)

Regardless of link clicks, the continued presence of Tardis Wiki in wider fandom seems like a good thing for the longterm, especially as we deal with visibility issues.

Anyways, perhaps you see where I’m going with this; in the words of WOTAN: “DOCTOR WHO IS REQUIRED. BRING HIM HERE. 💅” Your edits deserve to be seen by the world.

Specifically, we are looking are looking for pages which you have put love into, pages concerning topics that most people might not know (although, preferably, there should be something in it which an average Whovian can relate to; I love it dearly but I’m looking to post maximum one (1) Faction Paradox fact a month) or pages which recontextualize something well-known from a new angle, and in general the edits you (or others) make that you admire. Also, my own taste is that they should be pages that make Tardis Wiki look good and should be written accessibly and as intuitively-organized as possible for any reader (imagine you are writing for a fan sixty years in the future, who knows as much context of 2020s Who as most people know of 1960s Who, and is not tuned in to current fan perspectives).

Additionally, pages on interesting content concerning the Steven Moffat, Chris Chibnall, and RTD2 eras of the show, as well as the works of Big Finish Productions, will be privileged because those are popular topics on which obscure interesting information is harder to find. Real topics, or in-universe topics which are interesting due to real-world context, are also very valuable. Important births and deaths of key figures is something that is very good also.

Below, you may submit pages to be covered as a daily focus of the Twitter. Pages which can be associated with a date are valuable because people on social media love things that pierce the timeless monotony of their digital prisons.

For now, I intend to write the tweets because it’s what's been happening and it's efficient, but we're a collaborative website and naturally someone'll replace me sooner or later. Its an interesting responsibility, I'll pass on some advice to anyone who wants to take it on, but for now everything's going fine. Cheers, TheChampionOfTime 22:12, 27 March 2024 (UTC)

With associated date[[edit source]]

It’s okay to have multiple pages which correspond to the same date!
  • Daylight savings - 31 March, due to British daylight savings. TheChampionOfTime 22:12, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
  • Book (Afterword) / Steven Moffat (in-universe) - November 18th, Moffat's Birthday. Najawin 03:20, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
  • Eleven-Day Empire - September 2nd, its anniversary, use September's FP post for this. Najawin 03:20, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
  • Uh, spoilers spoilers spoilers, there are three character pages related to a certain VNA that could be linked on the day a certain episode from the new series airs. One beginning with J, one with H, and one with M. I hope this is both suitably oblique and yet is obvious to everyone who keeps up with rumors. Najawin 06:59, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
  • Anime City / Crooked World stuff more generally. - September 15th, that's the anniversary of Undertale. (smh @ no DWU reference to Undertale) Easy to just go "Did you know in the DWU anime is real?". Najawin 01:34, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
    • smh, the entire point was Undertale. Najawin 17:14, 3 June 2024 (UTC)
  • David Hilbert / maybe Hilberta's Hostel - January 23rd, Hilbert's Birthday. Might be the FP thing for the month, if you emphasize the latter article. Najawin 00:54, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
  • Telenovela / Mexico City / Luchador / whatever Mexican culture stuff you can think of - May 5th, Cinco de Mayo. Najawin 01:24, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
  • McAllister Park / HEB / Jim's - It'll be a year before this comes around again, but March 2nd, Texas Independence Day. (Or maybe another Texas relevant date if one is sooner, idk, I just googled.) All from an FP novel, sure. But there's aspects of every day life shown in the DWU even if you're not in Britain. Najawin 01:24, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
  • President of the United States has a bunch of fun stuff and would be timely around 5 November 2024. WarDocFan12 17:39, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
  • May Day - May 1st, duh. Najawin 04:23, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
  • Iraq War - Also could work for May 1, as this was the day Bush held the infamous "Mission Accomplished" speech. Najawin 04:23, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
  • Washington DC - May 3rd, when it was officially incorporated as a city. Najawin 04:23, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
  • Nelson Mandela - May 10, when he was inaugurated president. Najawin 04:23, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
  • Vietnam War, maybe, it's a bit rough - (Sometime after a certain episode airs, minor spoilers to explain why.) While it hasn't yet been stated to be the case in the DWU, a little known fact is that during the First Battle of Saigon, in order to prevent a message from Ho Chi Minh from being broadcast over the radio, they played Beatles songs over it. Najawin 06:01, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
  • Richard Nixon - August 9th, fiftieth anniversary of his resignation. Only POTUS to travel in the TARDIS, and probably the most detailed portrayal of all US presidents in the DWU. BlueSupergiant 12:18, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
  • Prime Minister of the United Kingdom - Similar to the POTUS link above. Whenever the next general election is called, or maybe for the local elections on May 2nd. BlueSupergiant 12:18, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
  • Scarecrow - July 7th, Build a Scarecrow Day. 66 Seconds 13:08, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
  • Pirate / Henry Avery / Zheng Yi Sao / The Captain - September 19th, International Talk Like a Pirate Day, so something pirate related. 66 Seconds 13:08, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
  • Blackpool Tower - May 14th. The date the Blackpool Tower first opened to the public in 1894. This year will be the 130th anniversary. A Doctor Who fact could be that it had a blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance in Blink, where it appeared on the postcard used for the Timey-Wimey Detector. 66 Seconds 13:08, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
  • Stonehenge - June 20th, date of the summer solstice. Stonehenge was built to align with the sun on the solstices. 66 Seconds 13:08, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
  • Sonic the Hedgehog (franchise) - Out of all the pages I've ever made, this is the only one I'd go as far to call a real passion project. Potential dates include Sonic's anniversary (June 23rd), the release of the third Sonic movie (December 20th), or whatever the release date of Sonic X Shadow Generations ends up being. This is for facts you know are interesting, but which need a bit more fleshing out on Tardis.

Discussion[[edit source]]

Does the page always have to be in-universe, or are out-of-universe pages eligible too? WaltK 16:48, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

Presumably, it doesn't matter. I believe out-of-universe pages have been featured before. Cookieboy 2005 16:52, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

Okay, a few months later, I didn't really maintain this forum's side of things at all. The enthusiasm here is appreciated, and I apologize that it has not always been followed. In the end, the posts have mostly just been me shooting from the hip and doing whatever, cuz its not really a serious job. Haven't been overthinking it, or really thinking it much at all. The website's frankly silly, and its the simple stuff that does well.

The twitter recently crossed 1,000 followers, about double what it had when I started, and this feels like a good place for me to step off (especially since it was Skaro New Year a couple days ago). It was a game, and I feel like Super Mario figuring out what's going on and deleting himself from the game because he's sick of dying getting to a castle and deciding that's a good enough place to quit. It's been educational for me in the ways of social media, and I think I've helped the wider promotion of this site such that the socials are in a healthy place for however they'll continue. I was not elected, just sorta wormed my way in, so I dunno, maybe there's some other interested worm out there. In the end, daily socials aren't the most important cuz we're all doing this for fun. Thank you for the work you've put into the account! It has grown massively and you've done a much better job than I was doing beforehand. If anybody else (that is a trustworthy editor) wants to take over, let me know and I can give you the login credentials (I will need a way to contact you off-wiki). Bongo50 16:54, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
