The Doctor, Amy and Rory land in Appletown, where it is mysterious quiet. They look around, and find a small bar, where they are served by a man who appears from nowhere. Then they turn around and Appletown is filled with people - most mysterious. While Amy and Rory head off to investigate a mysterious figure that looks at them through a curtained window, the Doctor is offered a cup of tea by the charming Mrs Sanderton. He notices that Mr Sanderton's telly is not switched on, and there is no water. This confirms the Doctor's fears - Mr and Mrs Sanderton are androids. Meanwhile, Amy and Rory meet Albert, a mad scientist, and his android Isley. However, they talk to Albert for too long and Isley awakens, and kills Albert. Amy and Rory run, and the village of androids start to turn against them. They are too slow for the Doctor, who is mystefied when he meets a future version of himself. He gives the Doctor a mysterious message and he heads to the TARDIS, after discovering Appletown is about to bombed. Realizing there is no time to wait for his companions, he stops the bomb but in doing so, sends him backwards in time. He meets himself and gives him the message, and then heads off to find help. Amy and Rory continue to try and survive, after barely escaping with their lives and finding the TARDIS gone. The Doctor meets a truck full of soldiers, that are heading to Appletown with Albert and the androids. He hops aboard and time rewinds, and he arrives at the military base. Every other chapter explains a bit about Albert and a soldier called Geoffrey Redvers' life, and how the orignal androids were burnt by Redvers and he made Albert go into business with him. Finally, they are about to die at the base and send out to the androids, but Albert accidentally takes them out of reset mode and they kill all the soldiers. However, the Doctor, going back in time, stops this from happening. He heads back to Appletown (and stops Albert from visiting it in the first place, which means he never died), and Amy and Rory escape the burning house belonging to the Sandertons and meets the Doctor at the TARDIS, and they let the bomb off. The androids are all destroyed, bar Isley, who Albert meets while running away from the military base and tells her to get on board - they are going to New Mexico. The Doctor, Amy and Rory leave the ruin of Appletown.
