Hollow Men
DWM
Yeah.  I hate ones like this, because some editor or other is always unhappy by the decision.  Still, we already have a ton of pages in :category:Songs from the real world where the name is never explicitly stated on screen, but the song is obvious from what our ears tell us.  Auditory information is canonical, just as visual info is, though it can be overruled by dialogue.  If there's a sign that says "Welcome to Honolulu" then we don't need dialogue to tell is we're in Honolulu.  Likewise, if "Paperback Writer" is playing, we don't need Jamie to say, "Hey, it's the Beatles singing "Paperback Writer", Doctor."  If we have a helicopter shot of iconic Paris, it's Paris — unless the dialogue calls it, for instance, New Paris.
Where Can i find The sixth doctorsCharmeRuler

Thus, the Doctor quoting familiar poetry, with the author's name being spoken in dialogue, is more the enough, I'd say to unambiguously name it "The Hollow Man" in the DWU.
Yh rite
So, yeah, the current The Hollow Men needs to go to The Hollow Men (novel), and the Elliot work gets the un-disambiguated name.

Heya :)  Just noticed this in passingIf two things from the DWU have the same name, then neither gets to go naked, as it were.  Both things have to have disambiguationSo the sentient species, Chameleon, needs to move to Chameleon (humanoid), now that we've got Chameleon (reptile).  Chameleon would then become a disambig, since there's Chameleon circuit, giving us the requisite minimum number of items for a disambig page.

Images by story categories
Please be aware that images by televised story and images by comic story are now completely filled out with subcategories for each and every story of that type.  So if you have an image from say, Thinktwice, you'll want to make sure that you put it in :Category:Thinktwice comic story images. Or if you have something from The Mind of Evil, please ensure it gets into :Category:The Mind of Evil TV story images.

These images by story categories are, of course, in addition to any other categories which may be appropriate, such as ones from  Images by character, Images by object, or images by species.

Images by story will continue to grow over the coming weeks to include other media, but comics and TV were deemed the highest priority, since the vast majority of images will come from these two visual media.

Also, if you haven't noticed it for now, TV story pages now all have a little tab at the top left labelled "images".  Clicking it takes you to the relevant category, so that you can quickly view our repository of images from that particular story  All stories will eventually have this sort of link.  Longer term, individual charactes might also have such a link. 02:37: Mon&nbsp;20 Feb 2012&nbsp;</span>

Hi. Terribly sorry, I just saw that you and another two users have posted a notice about my misusing the categories system. I've read the site rules and I'm pretty sure I understand. ==Page: Virtor==
Hey there. I saw you deleted my recent page before I'd added information. I was midway through editing it; it's just that creating content on the page creation is cumbersome on my mobile device. I'd appreciate it if you'd give me a few minutes to write the information this time round.
Thanks. User:TheAnonJade 16:32, 05/09/14.

Hi again. I'm sorry for the trouble. I can't view the full edit page on my device, so I have no idea why the article is empty once I complete the edit. I can look at it at home if you're willing to wait, or if not could you take a look at Virtor and see what mistake I've made. I've put the information in there somewhere, but it's not showing at all when I publish. Sorry, I'm not used to editing via my phone and I won't do so in the future. Sorry and thanks. Thanks very much. It's turned out to be a nightmare. As I'm idle, I'll carry on with a couple of minor edits if I spot anything, but I definitely won't be doing anything complicated on my mobile in future. Thanks again. User:TheAnonJade 16:55, 05/09/14.

Teeny weeny message about Cloister Bell
Hey there,
I'm headling offline now but I've noticed that some unnamed user had edited the Cloister Bell page. So out of everyone's interests, I tidied it up. It seemed s/he didn't understand I was helping and reversed it again. I just tidied it up again but if you could keep an eye out so that he doesn't feel the need to leave trails of terrible English on more pages, it'd be appreciated.
If I remember tomorrow, I'll try to clean up that page since it does have quite a lot of bullet points haha.

Gaffabeque vs Gaffbeque
Hi there.
I just wanted to bring something to your attentions. There are currently two pages about the same thing- Gaffbeque and Gaffabeque (regarding the foodstuff mentioned in Bad Wolf).

:Cameo in The Ark maybe.  I'd be willing to wager at least a few dollars that a chameleon pops up in a book somewhere, and we just haven't run across it yet.
In the episode, as you'll of course know, it's pronounced "Gaff-a-beque" rather than "Gaff-beque". Is it possible to merge the two pages under the name "Gaffabeque" and use the information on that page since it's more lengthy. Also, we'd need to change the link on the page Lucifer.

Sorry to intrude on your busy patrolling but it's been doing my head in and I don't want to break any rules by merging pages... I don't even know how to do it.
Thanks,

Yeah, I debated that one yesterday myself and I did see the utility of such cats. People will find those categories useful.  I debated moving the cats to the real world super cat, but whether it's there or under the in-universe supercat, it's still mixing the two in a way that should normally be forbidden.  At the end of the day, I just decided that it wasn't causing actual category recursion.  So I left it alone until such time as I or others can give it a proper think.
Confused
I'm a bit confused that your removing the fact that Missy is the Master. I originally thought you were a Vandal but I can see your a Admin. Lewody1 <span title="Talk to me">☎</span> 21:20, November 1, 2014 (UTC)

[My current obsession with cats has everything to do with recursion. I'm not methodically going through every cat and weeding them out on the basis of adherence to the "four cat" rule seen at Floor 500.]
::Ahh. Thanks for telling me. Lewody1 <span title="Talk to me">☎</span> 21:42, November 1, 2014 (UTC)

Now that you've gotten me thinking about it again, though, all that info could be conveyed through a single page, or charts on companion.  As long as as the companions are broken down somewhere by media, then we've given people something they can use.  Yeah, sorry for the stream of consciousness writing here, but those cats could go in favor of adding the info in a tabular way to companion, though obviously to the BTS section.

Bold Clone block
Hi Skittles the hog,

Could you explain why you blocked Bold Clone please?  I've looked through the history of The Doctor's TARDIS and can't see what he did wrong.  Did he do something at another page that, when added to his changes at the TARDIS, created a broader offense? And, are you sure it was for a reason covered by our blocking policy? What I see is that he took some pictures down, and he left a rationale in the revision note. What's wrong with that to cause you to block him without warning him on his talk page?
My source for the uncredited service mechanic actors was The Doctor Who Production Guide Volume Three: Cast and Crew by David Brunt and Andrew Pixley, published by the Doctor Who Appreciation Society in April 1998. I hope this helps. I'd also like to say thank you for your contributions to the page, as these have greatly improved it.
:Not it's not the hastiness that bugs me.  It's the fact that what he did isn't listed as an offense in tardis:blocking policy or tardis:vandalism policy.  The closest thing is the line about "bad faith edits" or "edit wars", but it's hard to see bad faith when he left a revision note that said there were too many pics.  And, if it's edit wars, you're kinda stuck right there with him.  But if it is edit wars, you know the policy seems to suggest a lower sorta block.  Yes, you can do more than 2 hours, but 24 for what were probably good faith edits seems harsh.

:Look, of course I disagree with him, and I honestly do thank you for defending my work.
On the subject of Ford Transit, I just thought I'd let you know that I accept and respect your decision to delete this page; admins — or is it caretakers now? — know best! I'll just write it off to experience. I'd also like to apologize for my attempts to counter the point on Talk:Ford Transit; this was the first time I had ever done such a thing, and I'm afraid I failed miserably in doing so — just as I did on Talk:Eeny, meeny, miny, moe.
But I just don't see how you can block someone for 24 hours for what he's done so far at that article.  If the block is really about only his editing at that page, I'd ask that you lift it. Blocking him from editing his own talk page is especially harsh in this circumstance.

::Hmmm.  Sorry to keep hammering this, but it's important that we admin don't give the wiki a reputation for "blocking at will". What specific rule of the blocking policy are you alleging he crossed?
If only I'd called the 'Ford Transit' page 'Pickup truck' instead. It would probably have been less bother...

::I am going to now slightly revert your block to allow him to post to his talk page.  There really is no cause to completely ban him from speaking on the wiki.
I've printed myself off a copy of Tardis:Valid sources and will keep it close by when creating pages in the future. I hope my creation of 'Ford Transit' didn't cause too much inconvenience.

:::Cool, I'm glad you see my questioning as an attempt to rectify actions against rules, rather than a personal attack on you.  Because, again, I am incredibly appreciative that you'd defend my work here.  But I also don't want to lose editors because of unfair administrative practice.  Now I know what you may be thinking.  BC is a sometimes difficult editor and maybe it'd be okay to lose him.  But I think we're defined by how we treat the editors with whom we have conflict more than by those who go along with everything we say.  So it's important that we use our powers in accordance with the rules laid down, or that we talk about changing the rules.  In this particular case, BC can only be judged according ot the rules as they currently stand.  And I'm not seeing "repeated removal of content" anywhere in the rules. The closest is tardis:editing policy, which prevents more than 4 reversions in 36 hours, which he didn't do.  So, I think you do have to let him off.  Note, too, that tardis:editing policy requires you, as much as him, to discuss things.  That is, you think he reverted you, but you were reverting him too.  Determinative in this situation is this quote from the editing policy:
I await your reply with great interest. -- Freddie R. Aldous <span title="Talk to me">☎</span> 17:06, November 3, 2014 (UTC)
::::In all situations discussion should be the norm, not an edit war or admin action (in the form of protection or blocking).
Changes to blocking policy
Moving away a bit from the the above case, I'm a little confused as to the specifics of your proposed change, cause I don't think you quite finished your second sentence. Are you suggesting that people should discuss any changes before making them to an article? If so, I don't think that would work, as it's pretty much against the spirit of a wiki. The rule against 4 reversions in 36 hours prevents too much abuse from happening. And if you're suggesting that articles not be changed whilst a discussion is underway, you'd have quite a problem administering that. Most people don't check the talk page before editing, so you'd end up with several cases of people making changes to the article, unawares of the ongoing discussion. And, of course, some people would claim to be unawares, when they really were.

Could you amplify your point a little bit? I'm not sure I'm understanding you fully.
Categories
::I don't at all think you could have a rule which suggested that the current form of an article is the preferred form. That's very much against the spirit of wiki editing. But then so does "gainsaying" an article — that is, just reverting the previous person's edits repeatedly. I think the thing is that if you had started a discussion about these changes, and BC either completely ignored that discussion, or gave them nominal lip service whilst nevertheless continuing to revert things, your actions would've been wholly within the rules as they currently stand. Likewise, he doesn't appear to have reached out to you and started a discussion when you started to revert his edits. So, really, you both failed to take the steps you needed to, according to current policies.
I see your problem. I will add a more apt description to "Human hosts" and "Individual hosts". I will also remove those two previously mentioned categories. Thanks. 66 Seconds <span title="Talk to me">☎</span> 16:26, November 10, 2014 (UTC)

::Getting back to policy changes, I don't think you could "freeze" an article at the point of controversy but through full protection, which is an awfully big gun to pull out on most occasions. And I wouldn't want to see a rule that compelled admins to fully protect an article just because of a li'l edit war. Though I intellectually understood why it was necessary, the Howling Halls protection rubbed me the wrong way. I kinda didn't protest only because it was an insignificant article. If something as important as the Doctor's TARDIS were ever fully protected, I'd go to the wall to take off that protection. So, no, I don't think it's viable to actually take some action that would freeze an article until discussion happens.
The Company
::Look how long the Howling Halls thing went on. Could we reasonably say to the vast majority of editors who never participate in any discussions, "Look, you can't touch this article for two months?" No, they'd think we were batty and leave.
It was actually named in Robophobia (audio story) and already has an article: Kaldor City Company. JagoAndLitefoot <span title="Talk to me">☎</span> 01:05, November 1, 2015 (UTC)
:Well, the information in the article was incomplete, so it wasn't a complete waste of time. And it's partly my fault since I had forgotten to link to it from the Robots of Death article when I created the page. JagoAndLitefoot <span title="Talk to me">☎</span> 01:17, November 1, 2015 (UTC)
::Oh wait, I didn't actually create it, I just expanded it with more info from Kaldor City and Robophobia. :) JagoAndLitefoot <span title="Talk to me">☎</span> 01:19, November 1, 2015 (UTC)

::I think you have two courses of action available to you at this point. You could check out wikipedia:wikipedia:3RR and other wikipedia policies around blocking to see if you find any language which addresses the problem you were having this time round. Or you could maybe adjust your approach to the rules as they are. When you get into "edit war-like" scenarios, take a step back. Get another admin to come in and adjudicate the situation, so that you're not in danger of being accused of admin abuse. Start discussion with the user in question. If that goes nowhere, take it to the talk page or the forum. When I nearly got into an edit war with BC over the lead to The Leisure Hive, I just walked away from the article entirely and started a forum post on the matter. Taking the time to write out a forum post on the issue reduced my blood pressure immediately.
I've listened to all the Kaldor City stories and Robophobia. You are quite correct. Robots are used on Kaldor for all kinds of tasks, not just on sandminers. JagoAndLitefoot <span title="Talk to me">☎</span> 01:30, November 1, 2015 (UTC)

::And here's a final thought. I personally think an admin should avoid blocking someone with whom he or she is having an active editing dispute. It's just unseemly. Sure, you may be forced to if a person makes a crystal clear violation of the rules —like, profanity or spam or violations of the video policy or something. But if you think about it, I think you'll agree that you weren't anywhere close to that this time. That's why I say you need to either take on board the policy as it is, or find some better language that fits what you think was a problem this time round.

Since we seem to be collaborating on The Silver Turk (audio story), I've noticed you've moved a page. Obviously this name violates tardis:disambiguation policy and has to go.  So we have several options:

*Stick with "Planet of Evil", which is barely used in the serial, and won't be the thing most people will search for.  This will obligate us to change the current Planet of Evil to Planet of Evil (TV story), and make changes throughout the wiki.
Hi Skittles, I have sort of made a mistake by adding Non-DWU Doctors category page to an in-universe one, as I don't know how to get rid of catergories I though it ought to tell you, sorry for the inconvenience. *Go with third planet, which is by far the most common name for the object in the story.  Have a redirect at planet of evil, which can then be put in inverted commas in the lead, as in:  The third planet, sometimes called the "planet of evil" . . .
*Go with unnamed planet (The Armageddon Factor), which is accurate and follows convention on a number of pages, but doesn't have the advantage of being something most people will search for.  I suppose we could do redirects, however, which will improve searchability.

What's the meaning of deleting all my work, I spent a while on that, for one thing not all of it is from the doctor, and for another, almost all the information on that page is from the doctor, so why only delete my work, if your against information from only one source, then delete the whole page. Not all of it does, addmitally a good portion does, but its from the doctor that we got the majority of are information on Time lords, and several parts are from other time lords, or things other time lords have also shown they are able to do.

I see your point, but you have to admit that several of the shows of hand-eye conordination that the doctor has shown are in affect super human, and many time lords have shown skill with guns, even thought most of them should never fired one before, for example Rommana, The master, Goth ect,

Well I don't have that, but you have to admit that there is evidence to surgest it, and it shown that time lords posses supior eye sight, reflexes and dexterity, so it isn't that imposible, after all how else do you explain a acedemy graduate of a race who's only soldiers arethe guards in the lower classes, as such would have had no acess to learning to fire a gun before in there life, being a crackshot on there first try?

I actually see no point in doing this if the information is already been placed in the character's article. It's just duplicate information that is better of in the article page. We don't do it for television stories, so why for novels. It ultimately makes character articles a wee bit pointless IMO, as the information can just be put on story articles instead.  I'm going to raise this in the forums. :Here's a screenshot of how things are looking on my screen, just so you can see the absolute current state of design and check it against your own view:

Note that "collision" may happen in Firefox (and other browsers) if you choose to zoom "text only".  By the very name of the command, it should be obvious that "zoom text only" means that you're distorting the text versus the rest of the page.  If you uncheck that selection, and then zoom the whole page in or out in proportion, you'll never get collision.  At least not so far as I can detect.  I spent a lot of time on the wikia header bar checking for just this problem, and as far as I can see it's a robust design.  Neither I nor any programmer can code things to prevent a page from strange effects when the text and page sizes are deliberately changed by the user to be out of synch with one another.  Go to any Wikia wiki page, try the trick of Firefox zooming with text only, and you'll be disappointed by the results.  &nbsp;<span style="">22:55:45 Wed&nbsp;23 Mar 2011&nbsp;</span>

Images by story categoriesedit source

Please be aware that images by televised story and images by comic story are now completely filled out with subcategories for each and every story of that type. So if you have an image from say, Thinktwice, you'll want to make sure that you put it in Category:Thinktwice comic story images. Or if you have something from The Mind of Evil, please ensure it gets into Category:The Mind of Evil TV story images.

In May 2011 I edited the Nyder page to remove what I thought was some sort of fan fiction user "99.116.249.117" had mistakenly added. However having just looked at some equally baseless contributions to entries such as Kate Yates and Thalek I now think 9.116.249.117 was a vandal. Zerinza talk to me 18:01, April 5, 2012 (UTC)

Knew I Was Forgetting Something...edit source

Gah, I always forget that. Pretty big issue, considering that I intend to create quite a few new articles in the near future. Thanks for the reminder! Sorry about that.

Christmas cheeredit source

Happy holidays!

As this fiftieth anniversary year comes to a close, we here at Tardis just want to thank you for being a part of our community — even if you haven't edited here in a while. If you have edited with us this year, then thanks for all your hard work.

This year has seen an impressive amount of growth. We've added about 11,000 pages this year, which is frankly incredible for a wiki this big. November was predictably one of the busiest months we've ever had: over 500 unique editors pitched in. It was the highest number of editors in wiki history for a year in which only one programme in the DWU was active. And our viewing stats have been through the roof. We've averaged well over 2 million page views each week for the last two months, with some weeks seeing over 4 million views!

We've received an unprecedented level of support from Wikia Staff, resulting in all sorts of new goodies and productive new relationships. And we've recently decided to lift almost every block we've ever made so as to allow most everyone a second chance to be part of our community.

2014 promises to build on this year's foundations, especially since we've got a full, unbroken series coming up — something that hasn't happened since 2011. We hope you'll stick with us — or return to the Tardis — so that you can be a part of the fun!

Hi. Terribly sorry, I just saw that you and another two users have posted a notice about my misusing the categories system. I've read the site rules and I'm pretty sure I understand. Sorry for the inconvenience, and sorry for not noticing your post on my talk page. Thanks for clearing up my mistakes. User:TheAnonJade

Page: Virtoredit source

User:TheAnonJade 16:46, 05/09/14.

Thanks very much. It's turned out to be a nightmare. As I'm idle, I'll carry on with a couple of minor edits if I spot anything, but I definitely won't be doing anything complicated on my mobile in future. Thanks again. User:TheAnonJade 16:55, 05/09/14.

Teeny weeny message about Cloister Belledit source

Hey there, I'm headling offline now but I've noticed that some unnamed user had edited the Cloister Bell page.

Thanks mate,

Prisonedit source

Thanks for creating this page. I'm working sporadically on the Wanted Pages, and it's nice to see one of the biggies (with connecting links, that is) created. Cheers!  :) ----Ebyabe (talk) 16:39, September 20, 2014 (UTC)

Fan fictionedit source

Eh, hello there. I have a proposal for you and the wiki here! I have just gained control over a DW fan fiction sight and would like to know if you'd like to start a partnership with me and the wiki, perhaps you could mention us on the home page saying "please do not upload fan fiction here, go to -here- instead. What do you think? Would you like to chat about it? The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bloxxasourus (talk • contribs) .

Gaffabeque vs Gaffbequeedit source

Hi there. I just wanted to bring something to your attentions. There are currently two pages about the same thing- Gaffbeque and Gaffabeque (regarding the foodstuff mentioned in Bad Wolf).

Thanks, TheFartyDoctor Talk 12:33, October 30, 2014 (UTC)

Re: Transit and Mechanicedit source

Hi Skittles the hog,

My source for the uncredited service mechanic actors was The Doctor Who Production Guide Volume Three: Cast and Crew by David Brunt and Andrew Pixley, published by the Doctor Who Appreciation Society in April 1998. I hope this helps. I'd also like to say thank you for your contributions to the page, as these have greatly improved it.

If only I'd called the 'Ford Transit' page 'Pickup truck' instead. It would probably have been less bother...

I've printed myself off a copy of Tardis:Valid sources and will keep it close by when creating pages in the future. I hope my creation of 'Ford Transit' didn't cause too much inconvenience.

I await your reply with great interest. -- Freddie R. Aldous 17:06, November 3, 2014 (UTC)

Categoriesedit source

I see your problem. I will add a more apt description to "Human hosts" and "Individual hosts". I will also remove those two previously mentioned categories. Thanks. 66 Seconds 16:26, November 10, 2014 (UTC)

Wanted Pages questionedit source

I am seeking advice. Or advise.  :)

I'm working through the WantedPages, and there are some that are, I believe, not really wanted. Like User blog:Magic Afro, BFBS and Template:Str index/logic. I'm not linking them, as that would make the problem worse. Might it be possible to delink them on the pages they are at? Which are often talk pages and Howling forums. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers! ----Ebyabe (talk) 02:29, November 16, 2014 (UTC)

Invite to forumedit source

Hey Skittles! I wanted to stop by and invite you to be a part of Thread:180396, where we're currently discussing if the DWU prefix does or does not well-represent our invalid policy. We've got some good input, but barely anything from more than one admin. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 22:56, October 8, 2015 (UTC)

Suggested rename/redirectedit source

Am I able to suggest a rename for the page Kpachoдap? It should be changed to Краснодар in order for it to be correct. Also, should we set up a redirect from Krasnodar to here, as it's a real town? I just need to know so I can start the Welsh translation of the page and link them up.

Just suggestions hehe. Thanks for your time. TheFartyDoctor Talk 19:50, October 13, 2015 (UTC)

The Companyedit source

It was actually named in Robophobia (audio story) and already has an article: Kaldor City Company. JagoAndLitefoot 01:05, November 1, 2015 (UTC)

Well, the information in the article was incomplete, so it wasn't a complete waste of time. And it's partly my fault since I had forgotten to link to it from the Robots of Death article when I created the page. JagoAndLitefoot 01:17, November 1, 2015 (UTC)
Oh wait, I didn't actually create it, I just expanded it with more info from Kaldor City and Robophobia. :) JagoAndLitefoot 01:19, November 1, 2015 (UTC)

I've listened to all the Kaldor City stories and Robophobia. You are quite correct. Robots are used on Kaldor for all kinds of tasks, not just on sandminers. JagoAndLitefoot 01:30, November 1, 2015 (UTC)

Hey, Skittles. Can you put 'The Dogs of War' cover onto its page. I uploaded the image last night, but can't work out how to put it in the right place. Thanks. andy frankham-allenThe preceding unsigned comment was added by AndyFA (talk • contribs) .

not gonna sp3end a lot of time on this -- just visited the Tardis Robin Hood page in passing and it crashed my IE 10 on Windows 7 so far five times -- if anybody is serious about providing info for all, this should be looked into -- the basic page frame has been SyFy's Expanse, many other video ads to choose from (for debug / blame) --76.18.94.220talk to me 00:35, December 11, 2015 (UTC)

Moving pagesedit source

Since we seem to be collaborating on The Silver Turk (audio story), I've noticed you've moved a page. I remember some admin mentioning that there are some special non-trivial actions that need to be performed when doing it. So I'm always afraid to do moves myself. What's the procedure exactly? Thanks in advance.

Meanwhile, I will continue edition. My primary goal is to fix factual mistakes.Amorkuz 17:53, December 12, 2015 (UTC)

this has recently come up on a mandela effect discussion. someone says they remember it being "galifrey" with just one L and I found your note about the name spelling in the original script. just wondering where you sourced this information? thanks. QuickMythril 23:07, July 23, 2018 (UTC)

Dalek Primeedit source

Hi! So this is going to be a blast from the past, but nine years ago, you were the one who added the presence of a "Dalek Prime" in AUDIO: The Four Doctors as a continuity point referencing the Dalek Prime from PROSE: War of the Daleks. Whether that actually is meant to be the same Dalek Prime is one of the many issues under discussion in my Thread:257167, so your input, among others', would be appreciated. --Scrooge MacDuck 14:04, September 15, 2019 (UTC)
