John Friedlander (1932-5 March 2023[1]) was credited under the title "Masks" on the Doctor Who television stories Frontier in Space and Death to the Daleks. He was the first person on the programme to get a credit in what would later be considered the discipline of prosthetics.

He was a credited visual effects designer on The Ark in Space and The Sontaran Experiment, but had earlier served as an uncredited visual effects assistant on The Ark (INFO: The Ark in Space) and Colony in Space. (INFO: Colony in Space) On Genesis of the Daleks, he received the special credit of "Davros' mask", laying down the basic design of that character which would survive into the BBC Wales era. He also received a special credit in Legend of the Sea Devils as originally designing the Sea Devils.
