Richard I of England (8 September 11576 April 1199) was King of England in the late 12th century (6 July 1189 - 6 April 1199). Known as Richard Cœur de Lion or Richard the Lionheart from before his reign, he was succeeded by his younger brother John.

While he led his troops in the Third Crusade, he worried that John would usurp his throne back in England. Richard assisted the First Doctor and Ian Chesterton in reclaiming Barbara Wright after her capture by Arabs in Palestine in 1190. (TV: The Crusade)
