Blood of the Daleks was the first of Big Finish Productions' The New Eighth Doctor Adventures audio stories. Co-produced with BBC 7, this was the first Doctor Who audio story to debut on radio since The Ghosts of N-Space in 1996. Broadcast and released in two parts ,it featured the Eighth Doctor played by Paul McGann and introduced Sheridan Smith as Lucie Miller. This story takes place after the final story featuring Charlotte Pollard with the Eighth Doctor, namely The Girl Who Never Was.
Publisher's summary
Part One
"People of Red Rocket Rising, my fellow citizens. Our long night is over. I've been contacted by a benevolent people. They too have known great trials, but they have overcome them and made it their mission to help others do the same. They have offered us refuge, and passage to the nearest human worlds. They have the resources, and the patience and compassion, to evacuate every one of us. My fellow citizens, my friends, rescue is at hand!"
Part Two
"The crashed ship. The one Tom Cardwell saw all those years ago. And you borrowed its technology, didn't you? Maybe even found a Dalek or two in the wreckage. Dead, but intact. And you began to turn human beings into creatures like them. You did that? I'm right, arent I?"

References
Daleks
- The Doctor asks the Dalek Supreme who they're at war with: the Mechanoids, Movellans or maybe other Daleks.
- The Doctor mentions to Lucie that he was present at the time of the Daleks' creation, and describes his decision not to erase the Daleks from history as a "big mistake".
The Doctor
- The Doctor's body temperature is fifteen degrees Celsius.
Notes
- At beginning of part 1 the Daleks offer help to the people of Red Rocket Rising, and at the end of part 2, the people of planet Telos (Cybermen) offer help.
- Lucie asking the Eighth Doctor if his hair is real is a reference to the wig that Paul McGann wore as the Doctor in The Movie.
- This is the first Eighth Doctor audio drama not to feature India Fisher as Charley Pollard. Charley was introduced in AUDIO: Storm Warning.
- There is a running gag in which multiple characters ask who Tom Cardwell is. This is most likely a callback to the Harriet Jones running gag in the new series.
- When Lucie first meets the Doctor, it reflects when Donna first met the Doctor in some aspects.
- Lucie's "present time" is 2006.
- She doesn't know how she got on board the TARDIS.
- She uses the word "Martian".
- She thinks the Doctor kidnapped her.
- Hayley Atwell (Asha) would later play Eleanor in AUDIO: The Doomwood Curse, Seksa in AUDIO: The Whispering Forest, and President Sheridan Moorkurk in AUDIO: The Sands of Life.
- This audio drama was recorded on 21 and 29 August 2006 at The Moat Studios.
Continuity
- The Daleks talk about putting the Doctor on trial to deceive the inhabitants of Red Rocket Rising, reflecting the Dalek trial of the Master in TV: Doctor Who.
- It was revealed in AUDIO: The 100 Days of the Doctor that the Eighth Doctor met Lucie (as well as a future version of himself) prior to the events of Blood of the Daleks in his personal timeline. This happened while he was travelling with Charley Pollard and C'rizz during a visit to the American Frontier in the 1870s. This encounter between two versions of the Eighth Doctor was observed by his sixth incarnation and his companion Evelyn Smythe in that story. To avoid disrupting the Web of Time, the Doctor does not share this information with Lucie.
- The Doctor mentions the Daleks' wars with the Mechanoids (TV: The Chase, AUDIO: The Juggernauts) and the Movellans (TV: Destiny of the Daleks) and the Dalek Civil War (TV: Resurrection of the Daleks, TV: Revelation of the Daleks, TV: Remembrance of the Daleks).
- The Doctor is adamant in his desire to destroy Martez' Daleks, as he regrets not averting the creation of the Daleks when he had the opportunity to do so. (TV: Genesis of the Daleks)
