Mr. Crane was John Lumic's right-hand man and perhaps a friend.

Crane supervised the capture of homeless people and their cyber-conversion into Cybermen. (TV: Rise of the Cybermen) The Cybermen almost "upgraded" Crane as well, so he damaged the life support systems built into Lumic's chair, resulting in Lumic being "upgraded". The Cybermen killed Crane before he could do more damage.
