Witchfinder General William Redcliffe was a 16th century Englishman. He was in service with Francis Walsingham.
In 1588, he used the anti-Catholic climate and uncertainty about the war with Spain to gain favour with Elizabeth I. However, Redcliffe appeared to put aside his selfishness and sacrificed himself to save the Fourth Doctor and Leela from the Vituperon. (AUDIO: The Devil's Armada)
