- The Doctor refers to Bonfire Night on 5 November.
- The Doctor suggests that he and Leela visit Queen Elizabeth I.
- The Doctor warns Father D'Arcy that the arrival of the Spanish Armada is imminent. It has already been launched from Calais and is massing in the English Channel.
- The Doctor's TARDIS exists across all dimensions, and if pushed its transcendental span to infinity it could contain the whole of the earth in an energy blanket.
- Sir Robert Harney is a Catholic and a senior admiral in the Royal Navy.
- Nicholas Harney, the younger brother of Anne Harney, is the suitor of Lady Jane Mountville, one of the ladies of the Queen's bedchamber.
