Apolena was a cook at Prague Castle in the 15th century. She was tasked with cooking for and feeding the Clocksmith's prisoner, Osm, whose stories she listened to but not believe until she visited the forest where the Eleven's TARDIS materialised.

Believing that Osm recognised Liv Chenka, Apolena invited her into the kitchens for warmth and told her about the prisoner. She took her to the forest where they met River Song and, with Liv and River, was attacked by Solver's in Osm's otherwise empty cell. The Clocksmith captured her and Liv, threatening her to get a ticket from Liv. Although Liv handed it over, he still killed Apolena using his device. (AUDIO: The Eighth Piece)

Liv was angered by Apolena's death, telling the Clocksmith that she had never hurt anybody. (AUDIO: The Doomsday Chronometer)
