A ticket was a piece of material (commonly paper) used to signal an entrance fee had been paid. (PROSE: The Slight Façade [+]Loading...["The Slight Façade (short story)"]) For some tickets they could be torn at entry to the location, and the ticket stub retained as proof of payment. They would also contain information that was specific to the person utilising the ticket such as; if travelling on a vehicle seat number and departure time. In some settings gates or barriers prevented entry to a location to prevent those without a ticket from entering without paying.
