2012 was a year in which a number of events important to the production of Doctor Who and its spin-offs occurred.
- 12 March - Roath Lock was officially opened by Welsh First Minister Carwyn Jones.
- 11 May - Doctor Who had its last day filming at Upper Boat Studios. They subsequently moved to Roath Lock.
- 22 July - The stageplay Robots of Death began its three-day run at Portland Street for the Greater Manchester Fringe Festival.
- 28 July - The stageplay Storm Mine began its three-day run at the Lass O'Gowrie pub for the Greater Manchester Fringe Festival.
