Coal Hill was an area in Shoreditch where Coal Hill School was located.
The word 'coal' comes from the old English 'col', meaning 'dying ember'. The First Doctor speculated that, as Shoreditch wasn't known for mining, Coal Hill must have been named for a battlefield which had historically been on the site of the current neighbourhood. (PROSE: Doctor Who and the Horror of Coal Hill)
It was in Hackney. Clara Oswald owned a flat in Coal Hill. (COMIC: Clara Oswald and the School of Death)
It had its own police station. (PROSE: The Eight Doctors)
