The Eighth Doctor was passing through it in 1840 when he met Penny Chapman. Those close turned on him, but were distracted by the arrival of Spring-heeled Jack, who caused the crowd to flee. The police arrived on the scene as Jack moved to attack Penny, but the Doctor knocked him away. The police officer Bates scared Jack away after he fired upon him.
