UNIT News, also just called News, was the third feature and ninth release published exclusively on the U.N.I.T. website on 20 April 2005[1] by the BBC webteam. It acted as a place for UNIT to announce news.
Summary
This webpage on the UNIT website gives news of upcoming events.
- Major Bensington completed the Five Seas Challenge, raising over £17000 for charity. The Major is also going to have a placement in Conference Management.
- The UNIT Archive and Records Section is looking to speak to any personnel who served at the Surrey station between 1967 and 1972 for a commemorative book.
- Weapons training is undergoing at Advanced Anti-Personnel Combat Barracks to familiarise front-line personnel with the "latest developments in the SLR-98 range of DSX". It is imperative that any soldier to use these weapons must be fully-trained or disastrous mistakes wll be made.
- The secure UNITNet for use by UNIT personnel and their families, is being expanded, including features such as instant messaging as well as financial options.
- 25 January 2005 - The thirty-fifth anniversary of UNIT's involvement with "Project Waxwork". A memorial service was held at UNIT HQ, attended by over fifty members accompanied by their family members, and £568 was raised and donated to the Veteran Serviceman's Union.
- 27 February 2005 - Captain Martin Bury takes command of the Geneva B Company, after a successful deployment on the Russian Steppes, and is soon promoted to Major. Lieutenant Rogers takes charge of D company 3rd troop, which is currently stationed in Maidstone.
- 31 April 2005 - All UNIT personnel are welcomed to UNIT's Third Annual Extreme Ordnance Testing Day at the Aldershot Proving Ground to test the new TM 9-2330, as well as to use classic artillery such as the RR-3390 and the RS-8020.
