Number 10 pays tribute to UNIT, prefixed as PRESS STATEMENT: Number 10 pays tribute to UNIT on the story's page, was the ninth short story and thirteenth release published exclusively on the U.N.I.T. website on 23 April 2005[1] by the BBC webteam to coincide with the broadcast of World War Three. Number Ten pays tribute to UNIT was the sixth release in the UNIT Press Briefings series of in-universe press briefings.

This short story was set concurrently with another, Number Ten.

Plot[[edit] | [edit source]]

In a press briefing embargoed until 08:00 on 26 May, filed by Corp C Powers, it is reported that acting Prime Minister Harriet Jones has paid tribute to the deceased experts from UNIT in the recent terrorist attack that destroyed 10 Downing Street.

Characters[[edit] | [edit source]]

Worldbuilding[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • Jones uses the expression that the lost UNIT staff could "smell a rat".

Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • While never stated, the date of the embargoed press briefing, 26 May, seems to imply that the events of Aliens of London and World War Three take place on their respective air dates as opposed the date given in those stories - March. However, given the ambiguity of the setting, one could rationalise the discrepancy by imagining that the press briefing was simply embargoed for over a month.
