By most accounts, Romanadvoratrelundar's third incarnation served as President of the High Council during a War in Gallifrey's future, although in most accounts the timeline(s) in which this occured were eventually aborted.
War Queen of the Nine Gallifreys
- Main article: Romana III (The Shadows of Avalon)
Leading her Gallifrey - which may (PROSE: The Shadows of Avalon [+]Loading...["[[The Shadows of Avalon (novel)]]"], Crimes Against History (first edition) [+]Loading...{"var":"first edition","1":"[[Crimes Against History (short story)]]"}) or may not (PROSE: "The Nine Homeworlds" [+]Part of The Book of the War, Loading...{"namedpart":"The Nine Homeworlds","1":"[[The Book of the War (novel)]]"}, Crimes Against History (second edition) [+]Loading...{"var":"second edition","1":"[[Crimes Against History (short story)]]"}) have been the original - in the lead-up to the War in Heaven, this Romana declared herself the "War Queen and Mistress of the Nine Gallifreys". On the day before the War Faction Paradox invaded this Gallifrey, resulting in the Eighth Doctor being forced to destroy Gallifrey and undo the War, (PROSE: The Ancestor Cell [+]Loading...{"chaptname":"Ended","chaptnum":"44","1":"[[The Ancestor Cell (novel)]]"}) which seeminly resulted in this Romana III being killed by skulltroopers, (PROSE: The Gallifrey Chronicles [+]Loading...["[[The Gallifrey Chronicles (novel)]]"]) although another accounter showed her to have survived into old age in the post-War universe, even regenerating into an incarnation with ebony skin. (PROSE: Tomb of Valdemar [+]Loading...["[[Tomb of Valdemar (novel)]]"])
Leading Gallifrey though its "darkest hour"
- Main article: Trey
In an timeline which was later undone, Romana II regenerated in order to prevent the Moros from becoming a black hole and destroying Gallifrey. (AUDIO: Enemy Lines [+]Loading...["Enemy Lines (audio story)"]) This version of Romana III led Gallifrey throught its "darkest hour", (AUDIO: Luna Romana) including attempting to thwart the Adherents of Ohm. (AUDIO: Intervention Earth) Nevertheless, Omega did return to Gallifrey war devestated it. (AUDIO: Enemy Lines [+]Loading...["[[Enemy Lines (audio story)]]"])
While she ultimately orchestrated her own timeline's undoing through Irving Braxiatel, a Matrix projection aided her previous self in numerous encounters (AUDIO: Renaissance [+]Loading...["[[Renaissance (audio story)]]"], Ascension [+]Loading...["[[Ascension (Gallifrey audio story)]]"]) leading up to the Last Great Time War. (AUDIO: Celestial Intervention [+]Loading...["[[Celestial Intervention (audio story)]]"], ect.)
The Fortune Teller
- Main article: Romana (The Little Book of Fate)
This incarnation worked with Laszlo and other Tharils to rescue refugees from a "forever war spreading through all of time and space." This temporal refugee camp was disguised as a traveling carnival, in which she posed as a fortune teller. She was similar to the Romana III who led Gallifrey through its darkest hour by the fact they both wore a black beret. (PROSE: The Little Book of Fate)
The Lord Cardinal
- Main article: Romana (Time Fracture)
Within a temporal anomaly known as the Time Fracture, time began to repeat over itself. At some point during this time loop, Romana II regenerated into a non-binary incarnation with short, blonde hair and blue eyes. No longer holding the Presidency, they instead held the title of Lord Cardinal. While UNIT had speculated that they would make for a powerful ally should they survive Gallifrey's destruction, a flood of artron energy closed the Time Fracture and prevented it from ever having opened.[source needed]
Behind the scenes
- Writers involved in the War in Heaven arc of Eighth Doctor Adventures novels based Romana III's described appearance on that of the American silent film actress Louise Brooks.
- James Goss contrasted Juliet Landau's version of the third incarnation from "other future Romanadvoratrelundars" like the "brilliantly glacial flapper" who had appeared in the Eighth Doctor Adventures. (VOR 56) Despite this, Landau bares a striking resemblance to her prose counterpart.
