The Sherwood Sorceress was a mysterious sorceress who faced Liz Haggard and P.R.O.B.E. on two occasions.
The first was in the 1990s when, using the power of a grimoire, she had begun to use illusions of Robin Hood to lure children into a stone circle in Sherwood Forest. There, she would use another power contained within the book to drain their life force and use it to maintain her own life and youth. P.R.O.B.E. learned about the strange sightings of "Robin Hood"; Liz and her assistance Louise Bayliss confronted the Sorceress and managed to confiscate her grimoire, although she was forced to escape.
Over the next three decades, the powerless Sorceress clung to life, plotting revenge and searching for another grimoire of equal power. By 9 January 2021, having finally found one, she returned to the stone circle and sent two men she'd hypnotised — a "stocky" one and one "other goon" — to kidnap Liz's own granddaughter, Elizabeth Holub, to serve as the first victim. With the help of the modern iteration of P.R.O.B.E., however, Liz was able to learn where Elizabeth had been taken, soon realising the Sorceress was back.
Rushing to Nottingham, Liz and Giles (her successor as P.R.O.B.E. director) disrupted the ritual and helped Elizabeth to free herself; with active help from the girl, Giles overpowered the goons long enough for Liz to tackle the Sorceress, who had become little more than a shuffling cadaver in her thirty years starved of life force, and snatch her grimoire from her, once more leaving her powerless. They subsequently notified the police, who took custody of her, being no more than amused by her incredibly old appearance.
