Morka was a Silurian who went into hibernation under Wenley Moor.
Along with Okdel L'da, Bokka K'to and several other Silurians, Morka awoke in the 20th century.
Biography
Morka was the son of a city Leader. Bored during the hibernation preperations, he and his friend Kchtaal found the primitive hominids taken captive for ecological reasons and tortured them to death for fun. His father was disappointed by both his disregard for a balanced ecosystem and his stated belief that the Leader should be able to ignore the law. Morka tried to make up for shaming his father by replacing the lost hominids, but the group he and Kchtaal found attacked them fought back with unexpected organisation; Kchtaal was killed saving him.
Due to Morka's actions, he and his father were both unable to enter the city's shelter and had to try for the city ruled by Okdel. Rather than accept blame or move on, Morka instead nursed a rage against the primitive humans. (PROSE: Prelude Blood Heat)
Before entering hibernation, Morka mocked Okdel for being fond of humans and having one as a pet. (PROSE: Doctor Who and the Cave Monsters)
Morka was one of the Silurians awoken by Wenley Moor's experiments in the 20th century, finding humans dominated the planet. He stubbornly believed that his own race was superior and they should simply wipe out the "apes". His militancy was a constant problem for Okdel, as Morka kept going behind his back to try and kill humans - as well as a captive Third Doctor - and kept having to be prevented. He rejected the notion of sharing Earth with humanity and while Okdel negotiated, Morka released a human prisoner who had been infected with a deadly disease engineered by the Silurians.
Believing that his leader had failed him, Morka killed Okdel and set about reawakening his species to reclaim Earth. After being tricked into going back into hibernation, Morka opted to stay behind when there were only a few pods left, willingly giving leadership of the Silurian race to K'to, who had assisted Morka in his plans.
Angry that the Doctor had tricked him, Morka tried to kill him when he returned to the Silurian base. However, the Brigadier arrived at the scene, shooting and wounding Morka.
Morka tried to revive one of the Silurians from hibernation, but was killed when their base was blown up by UNIT. (TV: Doctor Who and the Silurians)
Behind the scenes
- Morka was not named on-screen, only in the novelisation and in the novel The Scales of Injustice. He was listed as "Young Silurian" in the credits.
- According to the novelisation, Morka is the Silurian which Major Baker (renamed Barker in the novelisation) shoots at and subsequently escapes into the moorland. In episode five of the serial Doctor Who and the Silurians, however, the "Silurian Scientist" Bokka K'to describes the Silurian wounded by Baker to Morka as "one of us".
