Woodrow Wilson

Woodrow Wilson was the President of the United States in the 1910s.

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

During his presidency, it was widely speculated that Wilson was planning to enter the war in Europe.

In 1915, he consulted with his chiefs of staff following the death of Haitian President Jean Vilbrun Guillame Sam. Wilson was concerned about the rebellion, and ordered US troops to occupy the country in order to protect US citizens and various economic concessions in the country. He noted that Haiti was six hundred miles from Florida when asked about the reaction from the international community.

Wilson was known to be racist, often using racial slurs to refer to black people in both Haiti and America. In deciding to occupy Haiti, he stated that he did not want the country's people to be giving "funny ideas" to the black population of America.
