The Third Series of The Sarah Jane Adventures aired on CBBC and BBC One in autumn 2009. The series consisted of six stories of two episodes each.

In a change of broadcast format, two episodes aired each week, on Thursday and Friday, meaning the entire series aired over a six-week period, with a complete storyline told each week.

A slight change to the opening was made: Before the title sequence, Clyde would narrate the basic premise of the series over a montage of scenes.

Among notable appearances this series, K9 Mark IV appeared in six of the twelve episodes and David Tennant appeared as the Tenth Doctor in the two-part story The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith which aired in late October.

Thanks in part to Tennant's appearance, the series scored higher-than-average ratings for children's programming, and also consistently scored high Appreciation Index ratings from viewers.
