In the 11th century, a Saxon village was located in Northumbria near a beach, a forest and an abandoned monastery. Among its inhabitants were its headman, Wulnoth, his wife, Edith, and Eldred. The First Doctor visited this village and received hospitality from Edith, while Vicki and Steven were forcibly taken there by Eldred, who believed them to be Viking spies. After the village was attacked by Vikings, the villagers attacked the monastery in which they were hiding, then pursued and killed them. (TV: The Time Meddler)

The Fact of Fiction article in DWM 393 speculated that the village in the story was Tynemouth.
